After four years in the PAC12, you have finally improved enough to be at the point where you are wishing and hoping for a Las Vegas Bowl bid!! Life's sooooooooo much better in the PAC12 instead of the MWC!!

Meanwhile we are still playing MWC and DIV II schools majority of the time. Win or lose I would take their schedule.

I would imagine they enjoy the $$$ from the PAC 12.

They also have access that we don't, no saying they will be able to take advantage of the access they have......but they have it.

What good is "access" if you can't ever access it? I have a billion dollar fortune that I can have as long as I live to be 500...

I thought it was funny he broke his 2 weeks of silence just half an hour after a TIC post directed at Utah fans.

Uh Nick BYU played 4 MWC teams and 0 DIV II teams. 12 - 4 = 8. Maybe you need to retake that math class for Ute football players--you know Addition And Its Tricky Partner Subtraction. You'd see that 4 of 12 is not a majority. Further, I do note that while BYU did not play a lower division school, Utah did--Idaho State. And I further note that BYU wanted to play Utah but Utah backed out. That said, Utah's schedule was tougher this year. But you make yourself look foolish overstating and misstating what happened this year.

So if you are BYU you would reject a PAC 12 offer? You don't want access? BYU would have had similar results at Utah in the PAC 12 thus far, if BYU performed better the difference in record would be minor.

Who is to say Utah cannot access it? I don't think they can be USC/Oregon L/T, but I certainly think it is possible for a great year every once in a while.

The money does not hurt. Having a great home schedule does not hurt. I would personally rather watch Oregon, USC etc vs Savannah State, UNLV.

Not a Utah fan, but to not want access is silly and short sighted.

What access are we talking about? If it is television exposure, I think that BYU with ESPN and BYUTV has better "access" than Utah and the PAC 12 network. If it is access to New Year's Bowl games, I do not see that happening for Utah in the foreseeable future. Do you? BSU will be going bowling on NYD but not Utah--they are hoping beyond hope that they get to go to the LV Bowl. If it is access to dollars, you probably have a point--UT over time is going to have "access" to dollars from the PAC 12 that exceeds BYU but I do not see that translating into anything dramatically different. Perhaps there is a different access you are thinking about?

I would rather be able to watch the game, nationally-televised, on ESPN every week than have to shell out a bunch more cash for a crappy network with shoddy camera work; fans need access, too.

Also, USC and Oregon to Savannah State? Really dude? Did you notice we played Texas this year? Have you looked at the schedule next year? Did you happen to notice :utard: played Idaho St and Fresno this season?

As far as access goes, I say that :utard: doesn't have access because they don't. Since joining the Pac, they've never been close to having access to bigger and better things than BYU. Let them show up and make a bowl game that's better than the Vegas bowl before we talk about how they have so much "access."

PS-Dunno what's going on in your personal life, but you're a damn stick in the mud lately. Maybe step back for awhile from whatever's got you so upset.

PAC 12 vs BYU being independent is not worth even discussing. There is no comparison.

This is not a Utah vs BYU discussion, this is a no brainer argument. We played UT at UT and had a 2 for 1. We have a solid schedule every few years. Schedules are not even remotely close.

The $$$ is a huge difference. The point is they have access, it is up to them to earn it. We don't, there are factors to keep us out. Like it or not it is the truth.

You're right; it's not a BYU vs Utah discussion -- It's a "Despite all their chest thumping and Pac 12 stickers, Utah has only managed, in their best season in the Pac, to make the Vegas Bowl," discussion.

I do not think this is accurate. BSU proves that. They ARE going bowling new year's day and with a schedule weaker than ours. We would have been there if Taysom et al had not been injured. I think BYU is actually in a better spot as an independent than UT is in the PAC 12 for access to NYD bowl games....

I'm pretty sure 90% of BYU fans would take Utah's situation over ours any day. There's no question that the rich become richer over time in CFB and that doesn't just mean money. The longer we are not in a P5 the further behind we will get from those that are. There's no doubt that that won't happen. The P5's will ensure that it will. I went to every game this year and I've never missed a game due to the weather or an opponent. Our home schedule sucks though and I'd like to be buying my season tickets because I want to see the whole season and need to reserve my spot. Instead I'm just buying tickets to hold my spot in line for "next year" because I don't want to give it up. I could have had much better seats for less money this year if I didn't buy season tickets.

Utah will be good enough that they will usually be in a position like in 2008 where if they just get the lucky break in all the close games they could win the South. If they'd ever make a decision on the offense they could do it. Fortunately Whit wont stick to a decision but if he ever did they'd be much better than they are regardless of what the decision is.

If we could put ourselves in their position I have no debut that our team would get much better, our recruits would get better, our stadium would be selling out and everyone but the few that wont to go back to the WAC days and win by 50 every week would be happier.

If only they would have had such access when they were in the MWC! ;)

I, for one, would be against joining the PAC XII or any other conference with as terrible TV coverage as the PAC XII gets. It doesn't do me any good to be a fan, and not be able to watch the games. I'm afraid I would become a distant fan if that happened. Right now, I get to watch almost every game they play. The importance of that fact cannot be understated, for fans' sake, and for recruits' sake who want exposure to play in the NFL. And once the playoff expands to 8, I think BYU will have much more access to what really matters--the playoff. As far as I am concerned, you can shove the BCS bowls. They became meaningless outside of hosting playoff games as soon as we had a playoff. Essentially, you have the playoff, and all other bowls are the NIT. So, once it expands to 8, we have the same access. If BYU goes undefeated with a good schedule, we won't be left out of the top 8--even if they gave auto bids to the five P5 champions.

To state the obvious with the playoffs being basically 4 teams, UT's "access" is no better than BYU's. First they have to win their division. Then they have to win their conference game. Then they still have to persuade the grand pumbahs that they should be one of the 4 teams. Winning the PAC12 will not always be enough (just ask Ohio State), and certainly won't be with 2 or more losses. While OR is primed to make it this year, if they lose to AZ again then no PAC12 team will be in.

Disagree. Utah wins their games and they are in the playoff almost always. BYU wins all their games and there are a lot of variables, maybe in some years and likely out most year. If Utah won all their games this year they would be in the top 4 no doubt, if BYU had won all of its games it would be a stretch. Thus better access, this does not include the other former BCS bowls to compete for.

Ohio State lost, thus impeding its own access.....if BYU had lost just one game they would not be in the discussion this year. BYU has a higher bar to get access......if FSU is dropping based on their SoS and their quality wins what do you think would happen to BYU?

To say Utah will never be undefeated and needs a weaker schedule to go undefeated ala 2008.....AND given BYU's weaker schedule that BYU has a better chance to go undefeated they are more likely to get a look based on this; then I buy into that. If you are purely looking at BYU as an independent vs a PAC 12 (Utah or any other PAC 12 team); the PAC 12 clearly has it better in nearly every way (better bowl access, more money, generally better games etc.).

Agree to disagree. If we are talking about a NYD bowl, BSU has lost twice and is going NYD bowling. UT is not, PAC12 notwithstanding. If we are talking about the playoffs, OSU lost once and is shut out of the playoffs. Of course if UT wins every single one of its games, it would have a good chance of making the playoffs (yet consider that FSU the only undefeated team is the fourth-in playoff team right now), but the chance UT will do that is quite slim in my judgment.

BYU fans pretending they're "glad" they didn't get invited to the Pac12 is like pretending to be "glad" about going to prom alone.

Odds are Utah will never finish 1st in the Pac12. They will probably grab some 2nd and 3rd place finishes over the years, though.

That said, a one loss Utah gets a better bowl than a one loss BYU.
