Transferring or Announcing You're Transferring

Dallin Leavitt told BYU coaches this morning he will transfer. Department history dictates facilitating an out for those who want it.

As for the timing--if he's leaving after this season, the first day after the last game of the regular season is the best time to do it. He will want a release and will want to enroll in his next school for class in January, so he's not going to play for us in the bowl game anyway--as far as someone transferring after the season, the regular season is the end of the season. At least he's not faking his way through team meetings and practices until classes are out. Heaps and others have done the same thing--informed the coaches and asked for their release immediately after the regular season so they have time and freedom to talk to other programs and make sure they have a landing spot and get enrolled, find a place to live, etc. I find no fault at all in the timing.
