I'm hearing about it from my Omaha peeps. (My company's HQ is there).

So the 2015 Cougs will face a Husker team with a new coach and without Ameer Abdullah.

More questions than answers for thst team. Hopefully they bring in another Callahan-type who blows up the program for a while.

Wow. The guy won at least 9 games every year he was coach at Nebraska and it wasn't enough. I'd hate to read their Cougarboard.

I've seen a few blogs float Bronco Mendenhall for Nebraska. He's the exact opposite of what Nebraska needs.

So I guess CUSA is going to need to replace UAB now huh? NOW'S YOUR CHANCE, BYU

Surely that second one is TIC, it is interesting that Bronco is in demand among bloggers at least--even if not with the actual teams.

His name is on the list if NU boosters. They have the same values as Bronco.

I think Lincoln NE has lost some of it's former chachet. It used to be "come to Nebraska, play for a national title"

Hasn't been that way for a long time. There are better places to go with equal facilities.

Couple other observations:

* They have no rival. Oklahoma used to be a rival. They aren't even in the same league anymore. Wisconsin may be a rival (who is the best red team in the B1G?), but the Badgers have owned the Huskers. They have a conference, but no key game on the schedule.

* When Nebraska ran the triple option, EVERY SINGLE TEAM IN THE STATE ran it, too. Osborn put on clinics. They had every kid in the state from age 5 and up was essentially in a farm system and dreamed of going to Lincoln. High school, Jr High and Pee-Wee coaches are still trying to figure out how to be relevant by revamping their programs to appeal to the folks in Lincoln.

*They fired Frank Solich in 2003(?) for going 9-3 (and essentially for not being Tom Osborn). That hasn't really worked out for them. And to the previous point, HS coaches, wanting to remain relevant tried to go from triple option to West Coast. You really can't to that with local HS talent. Now they have more of a read-option offense and the HS guys are trying to catch up again. But now the lustre is lower in Lincoln, and as they produce better pro-style and read option players, they are getting recruited more heavily elsewhere (like where winters aren't as nasty!)

Might be a good job for Kalani Sitake. As much as I dream of him coming home to BYU I don't think that will happen so why not the head coaching job at Nebraska. I just want him out of Utah!

No big time P5 program is going to hire Sitake as a head coach. Its a bit of a Mormon falacie to believe he's in high demand. Programs may be interested in him but only as a defensive coordinator.

Just heard his contract was through 2019 and they owe him over $7M until he gets his next coaching job.

Good points. Heck, even the Gophers have owned the Huskers. I've always thought Nebraska was bit of a weird fit in the B1G because of the lack of a rival, though I guess Iowa and Minnesota used to play them pretty often way back in the day.

I work with a lot of Huskers and they're commiserating with the Golden Domers in the office about the lost lustre of their once proud programs. I actually don't mind the Husker or Irish fans, so I kinda feel for them. It's the Badger, Wolverine, and Buckeye fans that are really annoying...

I always sensed that NE left the Big 12 in a big old hissy fit because they didn't have the sway that TX and OK have. But the Big 10 has not been a good fit. No more mega OK revival game. And instead of TX or OK being the top dog, now it is Ohio State or WI in FB who are the top dogs and NE still doesn't have the sway. I bet if they could do it over again, they'd pick to stay in the big 12.....
