Worse Than What they Thought

Damage to Hills' leg is worse than what they thought.



Hill was in surgery for two hours. According to Bronco, just about "every major ligament" was "shredded" and Hill had to have a plate and some screws put in.



No way he'll be draft ready. I wouldn't be surprised if Hill's football career is over. Maybe he'll be ready to go in time for Fall.

I did not want to read that.

Prayers out for TH. This is they type of injury that could take a full season+ to get better.



I would say there is no way he would have gone to the draft, doubt he would have declared knowing where he would likely land (aka 4th round or later). He was coming back next year either way but with a significant injury I hope he makes it back.

This really sucks. But honestly, didn't we see an injury coming? A QB, no matter how mobile and beefed up they are, aren't meant to take this kind of a beating. I was cautiously optimistic that this season would be special, but I knew it all hinged on TH's health. It became obvious after the Texas game that he put too much of the load on his shoulders (maybe he was forced to because of the offensive scheme) and an injury was inevitable.



I think running quaterbacks are fun to watch and tough to stop if they can still throw, but it's never a safe bet to design an offense around them.



Anyway, best wishes for Taysom, and a speedy recovery.

It's a very serious injury. I hope Taysom can recover and come back. I have grave concerns he will ever run the same.

Feel so bad for Taysom. But that's what happens when a team is allowed to horse collar, well half horse collar (like a half Nelson) from behind and then roll up on his leg. Cheap A Bas-turds were going for his legs all game.

It did not appear intentional. It was a horrible injury, but this is football and could happen in any game......even if BYU was on defense.

AGreed. It didn't seem intentional, just the way the play tackle developed. Granted you could have given USU the 15 yard penalty for horsecollar, but I don't think the guy tackled taysom in that way to break his leg. And at that point the 15 yards was the last thing on my (and I'm sure the BYU coaching staff's) mind.



When I saw the injury and the mechanics of that left foot, I knew this was the likely result. The foot can't roll under like it did and not sustain serious soft tissue (ligamentous) damage. Serious and possibly debilitating injury. The fact that they got him into surgery the next morning bodes well for taysom. Just have to wait and see how the ankle turns out. Hopefully well enough to keep playing.

While a horse collar tackle, it was not a foul, and the refs were right to not flag it. The USU player did not pull him down from inside the pads--he had him by the wrist and had his right hand on top of Taysom's pads, but not inside the collar. It had the same effect/result as a horse collar, but his hand was not inside the collar when he took him down. If anything, the more I watch it, I start to wonder if it would not have been as bad if it had been a horse collar tackle--it looks as if the injury occurs when the Aggie, perhaps fearful of getting flagged for having his hands up on the pads like that, lets go to slide down onto Taysom's leg.

or jersey, and immediately pulling the ball carrier down. This does not apply

My point was not that he never had his hand inside the collar, but rather that he did not bring Taysom down with it, much less immediately, which is what the rule requires.

As a Ute fan first and foremost let me express my condolences to Taysom and the rest of the Y program. QB injuries are always problematic. Here's to hoping that he gets better, I would love to see him in the NFL, dude's a baller.

That's classy ByUte, I would love to see him play in Canada (meaning I'll take anywhere) because he is flat out fun to watch.

The sad thing is, if Taysom goes down when the guy first grabs him, rather than carrying him for a few steps, he doesn't have time to slide down and onto his leg. He got hurt because he's a such a beast running the ball. Just a fluky, bad luck accident. No dirty play from the tackler, not really anything Taysom should have done to avoid it - well, besides pitch it. ;)

I believe I read somewhere that the person that injured Taysom is the exact same player who injured Taysom's knee two years ago. Neither play seemed to be an intentional injury, but the odds against that happening are obviously tremendous.
