I turned on the Utes UCLA game and in three plays the Utes had more QB sacks than we've been able to do in three games, unless I am misremembering..and they were all with 4 or 5 rushers.....

Listened to Bronco's morning interview today and he said there will be some shuffling of players on defense; so, maybe that will help.

Even when Bronco was running the D we still never saw sacks. It's amazing to me how often over the past 5 years that the D blitzes and still doesn't get a hand on the QB. Every decent team in the country is getting to the QB with a 5 or 6 man rush except for BYU.

The DL is the key to a solid defense.

If you don't have a good DL - whether running a 3-4 or 4-3 - your defense is in trouble.

You need your DL to have to be demand the attention of all of the OL so that your LBs are free to make plays - be them pressuring the QB or tackling RBs or protecting crossing routes.

If you don't have a strong DL, then your LBs have to help bring pressure which causes your Safeties to cover down into the areas vacated by the LBs bringing pressure. This creates holes in your backfield.

BYU hasn't been able to consistently bring pressure from the DL in several seasons. This is the primary reason for defensive failures.

i'd give up every birthday and christmas gift for me and my family for a decent pass rush. It has been non-existent.

After being at the game last week I'm really surprised this thread hasn't seen more comments. USU had all the time in the world to throw the ball last week. I don't think there's a group of DB's in the country that can cover for 6, 7, 8 seconds. Our DB's blew it a bunch of times but there's not a D1 qb that can't beat us with that much time. Riley Nelson's pass game would have looked heismanish last week with our pass rush. If that can't be fixed (and so far apparently it can't) we're not safe in any game.

Dead on stirfry, dead on. There were a couple of long throws that came out quick on double moves, but that doesn't change that Garretson had all day to throw and just about any QB can succeed in that situation.
