True.
But Anae is the one in charge of an offense that exposed our best player to needless contact. The wheels came off with the defense, but Hill was the engine to success for the entire team.
Is it Anae's fault Hill made an audible, passed on handing the ball off and going for it. Not entirely. But Anae sets the tone on offense and he clearly had no issue with Hill tucking and running every 3rd play.

Gunk. Go back and watch the game. BYU came out throwing deep. First time this yesr. It worked go a minute then fizzled and sputtered. Anae went to what was working. Read option.
When you have a QB who runs better than your best running back in history, but cannot consistently throw deep, you either run him, or bench him if you have a great passer. We will find out whether we even have a good passer now. I already know we do not have a great one.
It is high risk - high reward. It allows you to whip Texas when they are having an off season. Look around. Anae is not the only one doing it.
Starting quarterbacks get injured. Great teams have depth. I do not recall when BYU last had a depth of QBs that actually turned out to be great.
Name a starting D1 QB in the entire state of Utah. BAM. There is not one. All 3 schools are playing back-ups. Our back-up. A 5th year senior, threw 3 interceptions while the other two whipped ranked teams.
For years, one of my broken record vomplaints, is that BY does not get enough meaningful playing time for their backups. And when they come in to mop up, they do not let them play.
Fault the coaches for mediocre recruiting classes and for not letting backups truly play even at the risk of running up the score, but the players do need to execute, and they did not on Friday.
