The Silver Lining to What Happened Friday Night

It wasn't nearly as difficult as it's been in the past to go into General Conference with a broken heart and a contrite spirit.

Alright Mr Smartman, maybe. But broken only by a strenuously "compelled" force and not by my own choice. So, since I'm getting very little heavenly credit to none at all, and since I am doing it with ashes all over my long, long face.....why don't you take your glass half full of lemonade making lemons and..... ok, I will stop There since I was asked to be civil and non-contentious and I was last night.

The silver lining for Bronco (as i have mentioned multiple times previously) is that we didn't play Utah this year. Getting beat by Utah for the fifth year in a row and getting slaughtered by Utah State at home is a fireable offense, even for Bronco, and even at a job secure place like BYU.

Rather than start a new thread I thought I would throw this idea out on this one: What if we try and lighten our mood with a little 'but at least..." justification thread?



For example: Yeah, we lost but... at least we scored in all four quarters.

At least we shut 'em out in the 4th qtr.

At least we didn't have to use a linebacker as a running back in order to win.



You get the idea. Boo me if it's lame or jump on and see who has the most creative 'at least' comment. I have a hunch some of you well spoken typers can come up with some zingers. And I'm guessing Spiff can find us some stats to back up our "at least" attitude!

btw, Sno, sorry if this ends up hijacking your thread. Just seemed to fit well with the same title! Conference has been great!

Okay, I'll play. We got curb stomped by our little brother, but at least it doesn't count as a conference loss :roll: (Edit: General Conference doesn't count)

Earlier in the season, I tried to warn about getting too high. The first loss is really hard to take. It would had been harder if it happened later in the year like in game 12.



Anyways, the silver lining is that I will not spend as much time reading about BYU football non that the playoff/NYD game is out.



PS I stayed away for a day because I knew the sky was falling crowd would be out. True, last night was awful. Here is to hoping that Stewart can lower his passes and hit his receivers. Getting full reps will help him this week. He can do it. Hope he does.

Our DBs got torched but at least Rob D was always "in the right position."



After the worst loss in over two seasons at least bronco did not say that we need to improve execution (although I wish he would have)



At least there is a higher probability that thill won't jump.



At least hill isn't around anymore to make Anae look better/more competent.

Saturday morning I had to drive all the way up to Roy for a game. As I was driving, I noticed this red corvette Z06 with a U vanity plate, the guy really thought he was something special. I also noticed his blinker on, for mile after mile after mile. Took a little sting out from a bad Friday.

I woke up early Saturday and went to a Mickey D's, drowning my tears in a large diet coke. Happily, the sun rose with me.

My thoughts while watching that game and getting all the taunts from USU and MWC conference fans on the message board I frequent were this:

It sure seems like since BYU went independent, Utah and USU really get up for the in-state game. But I don't know if it is an even-keel Bronco thing or playing a national schedule so we don't care as much about the local games thing or perhaps even a "we've beat them so many times of course we will beat them again" thing with USU--but BYU sure doesn't seem to get as pumped as our opponents in the in-state rivalry games.



I really hope that it becomes more of a focus for the team going forward. I think it hurts recruiting in state to frequently lose your in-state games.

At least Vandy, no, at least Tulane, no again...man, all my other teams are terrible.



I will say this...at least there's another year of eligibility for Taysom. He came back once from injury, and he can do it again. I want to see him square off against Chuckie Keeton in the 2015 finale. It's October. Prognosis is looking like he could play spring ball. Would love to see CStew finish the season well, and for Taysom to take it to some of the big games next year. Get well young man!
