Arizona is Going To Jump BYU In Polls

Beat Oregon at Eugene and looked good doing it. Mariotta fumble on final possession will not help his Heisman campaign

There will be a lot of movement in the polls this week as a lot of undefeateds play each other. Too early to worry too much about it, just keep winning.



Also, between UCLA barely squeaking out wins, Oregon's terrible defense and porous O-line, etc. the Pac is looking more and more like a paper tiger after all the preseason hype.

Schmoe is exactly right. The PAC is having another average year of hype and deflation. UCLA has not exactly impressed. AZ will probably be overrated after beating an overrated Oregon.



I'm hoping this motivates BYU. They absolutely can (and should) win out. Just win baby! (and hope that AZ loses a few).

Not sure that will happen....Oregon is obviously overrated and their OL is terrible. It may depend on how Michigan State does this weekend and how bad we beat USU.

That game is an interesting outcome considering that AZ escaped a loss to Cal with a Hail Mary. Could Cal be secretly a good team? That would help BYU's SOS.



This sets up the possibility that the PAC has only 2-loss teams to choose a champ. If Cal were near the top of the rankings, and BYU beat them at the end of the season...



Wow. Just have to laugh at even the POTENTIAL irony of BYU making the playoffs in the spot of a PAC team while Utah languishes in a conference of parity.



I know, I know, won't happen, blah, blah, blah. Just fun to think about that remote possibility.

Arizona deserves to jump us. That was a signature win against the #2 in the country... we haven't done that since 1990 and our win was at our place... theirs was at Oregon.



Now do I believe in Arizona? Nope... will they finish ahead of us? Nope



We still just have to win... The Pac 12 (soft) SEC (legit) are going to cannibalize themselves, The Big 10 stinks, and the ACC , Big 12 have a real front runner. BYU might have legit claim on the best team in the west by seasons end, if they stay healthy and handle business.

Only if BYU loses. I don't see Arizona jumping 10 (USA Today poll) or even 12 spots (AP poll) on one victory, and that's assuming BYU stays static at 19/18, which likely won't happen either.



Arizona will take a leap, but I don't think they crack the top-20---they'll still be ranked below Oregon, and BYU, assuming a BYU win tonight.

Early season rankings are dumb. Oregon's #2 ranking simply means that people THOUGHT Oregon was an elite team based on past performance and perceptions and the results of a limited schedule.



It was a sloppy win against an overrated Ducks team that has a horrible o-line. Both UA and WSU stopped the run and consistently got to the QB rushing 3 or 4. Nevada and Cal outscored Oregon against Arizona's defense. UTSA scored one point less. Let that sink in.

Yup. Arizona struggled to beat UTSA and Nevada. Needed a miracle hail mary to beat Cal. Arizona isn't finishing the season without a loss. They could easily finish with 4+ losses.

Absolutely! The real lesson here is that the PAC 12 has a ton of parity, but is lacking elite teams. They will all beat up each other. The PAC 12 champion will most likely have at least 2 losses - especially if Notre Dame plays well.



The same thing will likely happen to the SEC, except they do have some elite teams and a 2-loss SEC champ will have a much better shot at the CFP.



Ironically, BYU's biggest competition for a CFP spot could be Michigan St. and Notre Dame - if they run the rest of their respective tables.

Mississippi St. beat #8 LSU on the road and went from Unranked to #12.



As others have mentioned there will be alot of movement in the polls this week. I think BYU jumps to 15 and AZ goes to 16 in the AP.



A not so bold prediction. Arizona will have the best offense that Bronco has seen as head coach in 2016.



Qb Anu Solomon is currently 6th in the NCAA in YPG and he is a freshman.

Rb Nick Wilson is averaging 114 ypg and he is a freshman.

WR Cayleb Jones is averaging 105 ypg and he is a sophomore.

Exactly. They'll end up 15 or so, but they will go down later this season so it's no big deal.

Miss St. beat LSU in week 4. These type of move can happen at this stage.



Assuming #25 TCU loses to Oklahoma. AZ goes past them. They easily move past Ok St., Kansas St., and ECU. Possibly Ohio St. and/or USC.



I expect both BYU and Arizona to move past the loser of Michigan St./Nebraska, LSU assuming they lose to Auburn, Stanford if they lose to ND, and perhaps one of the Mississippi schools if they get rocked this weekend.

Arizona is #10 in the Ap and #13 in the coaches.
