Preparations Underway for USU Game

Checked out the field today at the Cougar Club lunch and saw Jimmy Mac's name and number going up on the press boxes:

Also noticed that the scoreboard testers are expecting a high-scoring affair (after some BYU fans with their white panties in a bunch complained about a test score showing a BYU rout was in poor taste)

Also of note from the luncheon:



- Jordan Leslie has been practicing all week and should be good to go, even if not quite 100%



- Kurtz and Kaufusi will warm up, but coaches aren't going to make a decision on whether or not they play until they regroup after warm ups



- When asked if he was concerned about the discrepancy in time-of-possession in the Virginia game, Coach Anae told the "disgruntled" Cougar Clubber "You know, I wish they gave points for time of possession. If they did that, it would make my job easier and it would make questions like yours valid." pwnd

I thought Anae did a great job with the questions. He wasn't afraid to call out the cougar club members.

Great Job Anae, tell the person who voulentarily contributes money to the school (and your salary)that they are stupid. That'll endear you to the 'em.



Geez ... Sorry if the question hurt your feelings, but man up and say something nice, like “It would have been nice to keep the defense off the field a bit longer, then they might not have given up a 99 yard drive for the last touchdown."



Really, if that question was INVALID why take any questions anyway, we already know what the score was. Jerk.

BTW panning the photo all the way to the right show why I believe that there isn't a better place to attend a college football game. That stadium, that grass, those mountains... all beautiful.

I'm gonna lean on the "don't ask coaches stupid questions" side of things. If you score quick and often, life is good. Let the other team hold the ball for minutes and not get points, that's fine.

I have sympathy for both sides here, but your point is completely valid. Anae will end up the way of Norm Chow if he keeps that up. Besides, he didn't have to sugar coat anything to give a nice answer.



I was hoping to hear something like: "It is a tribute to the talent and drive we have on the team that the best Virginia could do was double up our TOP, and that STILL wasn't enough to beat them. I'm pretty excited to think about what this team is capable of when they get to keep the ball half the time, and I know Nick's working on that."



Then again I'll take a surly poly coach any day of the week if he can deliver what Anae 2.0 is bringing. Leave the nice guy stuff to Bronco.



This comment of his makes it likely true that Robert will likely never be HC anywhere.

I should add that everyone in the room laughed when Anae gave that response--including the booster who asked the question. It's hard to convey tone when you are quoting someone in writing, but Anae's responses were dry, witty, and delivered in good humor and he had the Cougar Club eating out of his hand because of his blunt honesty--not surly, but good-spirited and refusing to pull punches. I think the end result of this luncheon was to leave the Cougar Club much more fond of Anae, not offended by him.
