This is a whole different team from the weak sauce that beat BYU last year. BYU better be using these extra days for their advantage, they will need it.

Greyson Lambert QB page ESPN. He looks like he's full of confidence and ready to play. Exactly the kinds of QBs that give BYU fits. Beat out 2 other contenders for starting spot.

They are leading #21 Louisville 17-7 in the 3rd. Also excited to see East Carolina leading #17 Virginia Tech 21-7 in the 3rd. UCONN is only trailing BSU 20-24 in the 4th. This could help BYU not only with their SOS (thank you Virginia and UCONN) but having a couple teams ahead of BYU in the top #25 losing would help too.

Gameover. UVA wins! Louisville will drop out of the rankings. Looking forward to the rematch this coming Saturday.

UVA's now has beat a ranked UL and their only loss now is to top 10 UCLA. This should be a good test for us.

Their D is nasty. Only allowed 79 rushing yards to a good rushing team. Spent a lot of time in Louisville's backfield.



This is going to be a great test for us. I really hope UVA is ranked after this week.

East Carolina also got the win. So that is 2 teams who should drop out of the top 25 allowing BYU to move up.

I am going to most likely hang around here in Utah for another week and catch the UVA game.



It might be humorous to pull up the poll of who our toughest opponents are this year and chuckle about who dissed teams like UVA and CAL and how daunting Texas looked and how easy Houston was supposed to be.

UVA needs to have a dominant year

Texas needs to win the big12

CAL needs to be a contender for pac12 championship

MTSU needs to have a sterling record

BSU needs to win the MWC

USU needs to be good

Savannah state and Uconn are lost causes I'm afraid



Certainly the stars would need to align. BUT... the only thing BYU can do is keep winning games. The rest is really beyond their control.



Just like every year, some projected difficult games turn into cupcakes, and some gimmies turn into gauntlets. It's what I love about CFB.

This schedule was never as bad as people have been saying. Houston is a well coached, tough minded team. UVA is talented, especially on dedense. BSU is still great at home. I think Texas has a real shot tonight because UCLA isn't really good.

I watched this whole game..The Virginia offense is still very suspect. It's their defense that is keeping them in these games. I diff think our WR could have big days if Hill gets time.

This UVA win is a godsend - if the Coug's can go into the UVA crib and get a W. I'm cheering for Texas today over UCLA. UCLA will be tough (Vegas is favoring UCLA by 9). But, a Texas win is possible at home.

regardless, pointmade. Very fortunate that UVA won. If we could only have had UT win. Instead of getting a lot of credit for killing Tx, we may only get a few nods and of course, UCLA will receive forgiveness and forebearance and remain at #12.

Give up no free points on ST or turnovers (defensive scores or short fields). UVA will NOT be able to get any TD's from sustained drives, unless we are up by a lot and playing backups or vanilla defense.

Additionally, UVA doesn't score many points from sustained drives (23% of points scored, or 5 PPG). The only way that UVA scores in double digits in this game is if we give up points off or directly from turnovers or from ST. Don't turn the ball over, we win. That simple. However, given how athletic and dominant their front 7 is, that's not an easy task. They'll be aggressive and will try and get after Taysom. Our O-line has it's work cut out for them. Taysom needs to make good decisions. Not a bad thing at all to punt vs. UVA.

Starting next week, almost every team will be playing conference games which will result in a few ranked teams losing every week. BYU will likely move up 2 spots tonight. We play 9 more games before bowl selection. If we manage to win all of those in spite of the fact that the odds are strongly against that happening, things will work out well enough.



And remember getting into a major bowl, we better be careful what we wish for.

But Bib, now that this thread is totally off track, you might be right, unless you are wrong, but consider that any team that does make a NY game prbably came close to being selected for the playoff and could be despondent and down not making it. Whereas, BYU will likely rally around that, if undefeated, and play with a chip on their shoulder, ala Utah vs Alabama and have a good chance for a competitive game if not a win. Regardless, it puts BYU in a better position to go P5--not that I'm hoping for that necessarily.

I am with you. I am happy to see BYU play anyone. As long as they play us straight up home and away or at a reasonably neutral site - Bowl game site might be neutral enough as long as we do not end up in Sugar Bowl playing Alabama or LSU - wait - that worked for the Utes - wait - then there was Hawaii.



Maybe we hope for Fiesta.
