What did we really see on Saturday?

We saw the GFGH offense do what it was designed to do. Wear down the opponent. Gash for large plays. Keep down and distance manageable so a team cannot focus on run or pass.



It helps so much when you have a QB with an over 70% completion percentage and 150 PER on the season and several contributing running backs.

We saw a very confident and efficient O and D play a great game. Taysom has IT and is the unquestioned leader of this team.



What we have not yet seen is the D stop a good to great offense. UofH, BSU, UCF, and maybe Cal will be decent if not good tests. This is my final lingering doubt about the team. Can they stop a passing team? We don't know but I'd like to find out.

We saw a vastly improved special teams effort.

Balance offense setting up and bewildering a good defense

A decent defense throttling a crippled Texas offense.



It is not clear yet whether the defense is just good - or something more than that.



The offense was clearly capable. It has upside. Koroma will not gift 4 high snaps in a row in every game. There are 2 freshmen starting on that OL. They will improve as the season progresses. We do not face and dominating defenses this year. Ryker Matthews may add to the OL. Kurtz and Blackmon may become factors. The best is yet to come. Anae has tools to work with and this offense will score points. And if the defense continues to create turnovers and field position aided by decent special teams play - this offense will score a ton of points with that kind of field position.



The defense and special teams need to continue to prove what they can do. Houston will be a good test. They bring back almost everyone from last season. Our Special Teams killed us iirc in that game and when you give up 46 points, the defense is not clicking.



Houston sucked week 1. Looked stellar week 2. BYU might make a statement in this game.

Three quarters of struggling offense, and one quarter that showcased the potential of the Taysom Hill offense?



I really do like that BYU won both of its first two games comfortably, but that there is enough on film that did not go well to keep the players' grounded and focused on improving.

I dont know sno, did you see the lockerroom celebration? Not sure they looked grounded. looked like they won the NC. I'd be a bit pissed if i was texas with water coolers getting dumped and flying around, etc.



I'd also say 2 qtrs of struggling O; one stellar; and one that had already chalked up the win and was taking the Quarter off.



If I were UH, I would be prepping to throw the crap out of the ball. UT was right to try and take away BYUs most potent threat--Hill and JW. THey didnt plan on our passing and other RBs, nor THill being as amazing as he is---afterall, how could a white guy run that fast and good and tough? UH O needs to test and if possible exploit out passing D--which is essentially what they did last year, right? Go away from BYUs strength--the run D.

This defense should have the best nickle package of any Bronco D at BYU. There is athleticism and depth. If a team goes pass heavy Bronco should be able adjust accordingly and keep them in check.
