Snubbed by ESPN = Less High Ranking

It just seems wrong. Did anyone else notice we totally got snubbed by ESPN??? Considering this game was one of the top 5 matchups in College Football for the weekend, we got nothing:



-No game coverage on SportsCenter, ESPN News, or SportsCenter U. I recorded multiple versions for the first 6 hours after the game. The best we got was a helmet sticker from Lou Holtz for Taysom.



-No SportsCenter Top 10 Play for either of the amazing plays in the game



-No mention of Taysom in the top performances on any program, for total, QB's, Impact Player, etc.



I believe a lot of ratings come from what people watch on SportsCenter. Not even getting highlights on any ESPN program really hurts and I believe we would be ranked higher had they been shown. It hurts to play such a phenomenal game and for Taysom to have a truly remarkable performance, and then to get so little recognition for it.

I wonder if the fact that that the game carried on Fox had anything to do with the reduced coverage. It is quite a noticeable blackout. If ESPN is all about BYU next week (assuming a Houston beat-down), then you'll know that's the answer. I suspect that's exactly what we'll see.



Here's hoping we don't pull a Florida State. The grounds crew didn't change the field turf this year did they?

I noticed this too. Here's my thoughts.



I'm guessing that ESPN would love to have BYU run the table and have crazy hype and highlights galore, but perhaps they're waiting until later in the season? After Houston? After the trip to Central Florida? Is Texas a dud this year?



Dear Texas, although it is not likely, Cougar nation wants you to go and win the Big 12!



Find a way to beat UCLA this week, beat Oklahoma, beat Baylor!

There is no question there was a coverage blackout by ESPN of this game because it was on Fox. Highlights of the top 25 (which included TX) were absent and highlights, as mentioned above were absent. I guess it's part of ESPN's strategy to ignore highlights from competitors' programming. Makes some sense, prevents them from giving recognition to competitors and free press. Hurts indirectly because their other product, BYU, would have had a lot bigger draw as a top 20 team than ranked #25 or lower due to the lack of exposure. Not sure which gets them further along, probably ignoring the competitor networks.



Ps: any team losing to an unranked team this early in the season should not still be getting votes in any poll. That is ridiculous.

Texas was not ranked in every poll which may explain why they were not in the top 25 highlights. I think ESPN at best missed an opportunity to hype and promote their own product, or may have intentionally snubbed Fox.



Either way. Lose no sleep. ESPN will be all over it Thursday including some retrospective comments.



A ranking of 25 is about right for BYU in week 2 and week 2 means little anyway.



It will be week 4 before almost every ranked team is playing a meaningful opponent every week. Then losses will come. BYU will continue to creep up or even jump depending how many losses occur.



Assuming BYU wins. If BYU keeps winning, things will work out nicely. No playoff spot, though.

Or ESPN was saving their praise for this thursday

Or/and keeping praise limited to not seem like BYU homers.



Keep in mind that this was a double story of interest. which was greater? That BYU killed TX? Or that Tx got killed by BYU? For a second year, wasnt too bad either. BUt at least the highlights. Thank goodness Lou either couldnt read or remember the memo.



Whichever--it was totally conspicuous to be left off ESPN. I wish BYU SportsNation would have drubbed Trevor Matich today about his ESPN associates negligence.

But espn in their top 25 poll put us at 22.. So I bet the fox sports 1 broadcast was the answer to this question.espn so wants BYU to win and gets tons of viewers

I stayed up half the night (here on the East coast) waiting for ESPN's top plays and was sorely disappointed that neither the word Texas nor the acronym BYU crossed a single lip or the ticker tape; felt righteous indignation at the snubbery.

But I decided it must be the turf war between Fox and Disney (parent to ABC and ESPN).

I was appeased today by pretty through coverage of the game - with as much praise for BYU as stone-throwing at Texas - on ESPN.com

Once you understand that, you know why ESPN avoids all but passing mentions of games carried on a network whose goal is to strip ESPN of its marketshare.

Last night on SC they asked who is the best QB you haven't heard of and they showed Hill and some other dude. Danny Kanell chose the other guy because "he's a pocket passer like I was." LAME.

This is the winner...Also, note there was a lack of Oregon and MSU highlights. The game couldn't be ignored completely because it was a top 10 matchup.
