Good luck with Coach Strong. I'm sure there will be some growing pains this year but once character returns to the Horns to match their talent, cash, and history, UT will have a quicker turnaround than most programs--and maybe even this year. BYU was fortunate In their timing to meet UT.

Now, go talk the admin into another series with BYU. Best wishes.

Hookem, like others here, I have really appreciated your posts. the interactions between you and most posters here typify what I think sports should be about; tough competition under the dome of respect, even for people who see the world differently.



My travels take me through Texas all the time. And with the exception of whataburger, I like most things about the Lone Star State. And while there are a few teams in the counry that, if BYU were to play them I would hope for a total beat down by the Cougars, and would bask in it if given the chance, I have to say that last night, in the 4th quarter, when the camera showed Coach Strong, I quietly wished we were winning by three points instead of 34. Just because I have a lot of respect for what I know of him.



Of course, when my sympathies ran their course, I was very happy with the outcome.



But I wish you, personally, well. And I chear for the Longhorns.



By the way, the Bruins are one of those teams included in my reference above, and I hope Texas literally blows UCLA off the field.

I hope you come around and feel welcome! Best of luck. UCLA is beatable!

Thanks for stopping by Hookem. I have to tell you I'm from Louisville KY and totally detest the UL. It's kind of a family UK vs. UL thing for me but I have to say Coach Strong is the real deal and a class act. I truly hope you guys have patience while he changes things there. It may take a couple years but I expect Texas to be back to NC contenders.

Classy as always, Hookem, and you can take some solace in the fact that you predicted it. Most of us were pretty nervous on this end. I know I would have been happy just to come away with the W. Coach Strong will get you guys back where you need to be as long as the boosters give him the time and freedom to work.

I will be rooting for Texas from here on out good luck to them and thanks Hookem I have enjoyed your posts.

Swoops played better than I expected. Give him a couple of games to get comfortable and open the playbook a bit and he will have success. Good luck Texans.

Thank you Hook'em. I think you guys will be good as soon as the players figure out that Strong is serious about his rules. He will turn your team around. Swoops was better than advertised and I'm glad we saw him when he had a short leash.



I hope to see you posting from time to time here on CC. (Although I hope to never be on ShaggyBevo again. I had to go take a shower to feel clean again after that and then figure out how to get out of 7th grade :))

I echo my fellow cougar fans compliments to you Hookem. I have never liked Texas until you showed up on here. Now, thanks to you I am a fan. If they played Utah I'd be for Texas and I have always cheered for local teams first. It appears to me that Strong is strong on integrity, stronger than the guy north of BYU who kicked an onside kick when his team was up 50 to 0. I hope you win out because of-course, it'll make BYU look great to pollsters that want to look past us but also because I think you and Strong deserve it. Don't be a stranger on here.

Class act. Also I think it's relevant to post here that I was very impressed with the Texas fans at the game. I did not have a single negative encounter with a fan, and I encountered plenty of inebriated, rowdy Texas fans, each one of them was gracious and friendly before the game, during the game, and after the game.

I will add my thanks, Hook'em, for your thoughtful comments and shared perspectives. I've always thought that Texans were good folks. We'll be pulling for you, and refuting those who are trying to disparage the Longhorns because of this loss. Seems that some rivals as well as fickle fans would rather blame UT than give credit to BYU for being up this year. Fans can get spoiled by success, and enemies are just plain hateful due to old jealousies.



We've all admired Coach Strong for his courage in taking the hard road to reform. Swoopes was better than expected, which is a promising sign for continued development. Your defense is already there, and just needs a little more offensive time of possession to keep defensive effort fresh through the game. This could happen soon. UT is going to ambush some good teams going forward. You guys have a decent chance to take down UCLA. That would make me very happy. Go get 'em!
