Ten Best BYU Players

1. QB Taysom Hill, Jr.

2. RB Jamaal Williams, Jr.

3. OT Michael Yeck, Sr.

4. SS Craig Bills, Sr.

5. CB Robertson Daniel, Sr.

6. LB Bronson Kaufusi, Jr.

7. WR Mitch Mathews, Jr.

Clearly, they don't have all the info. Leaving off JJ is understandable, assuming they are going off last years stats. Same for WRs. But hard to say who will emerge.

BK will be 3 or 4 by end of season.

Cool to see 4 OL on there. Let's hope they are that impactfull.

Most notable absence is a TE of any name. I mean that no deserving TE has emerged. Will Mahina bring TE dominance back? Will Mitch M be lined up as a light weight TE like Jonny Harline was?



Considering the incoming WR depth, I can imagine that happening. Among Leslie, Kurtz, and Blackmon, I expect at least one, if not two of these to emerge as top contributors, at least in an offensive top 10.



Also, wouldn't at all be surprised to see a second running back emerge among three: Hine, Lasike, or Brown, especially Lasike, since his role would be more of a fullback. Brown could possibly fill either position (RB/FB). At any rate, there is wonderful depth at the skill positions, except at QB. I think that Hill is durable enough though.



On defense, the most notable absence on this list besides JJ, is Alani Fua, who is a huge play maker, and may get more action on his side due to the attention given Kaufusi.



Prediction for season: 11-1, plus a win at the Miami Bowl. Beyond that I think there is a one in three chance of beating Texas and going undefeated, making the play-offs, but not winning out. I know this sounds ambitious, however I believe these 2014 Cougars to be unusually stacked with experience and talent on both sides of the ball. If Hill stays healthy, then BYU is going to be scary and fierce. Texas had better bring their "A" game. The next biggest challenge will be UCF, not Boise. After that, I would say USU, if it were a road game, but I think these Cougars can handle Chuckie K in Provo. Therefore, that leaves BSU on the blue turf as the third most challenging game, and USU as the fourth. I think we drop only one of these four games, and it will be on the road at either Texas or UCF. A theoretical win at UT somewhat sets us up for an emotional let-down at UCF.



Well, anyway, it does look like a very interesting FB campaign for our Cougs this fall. Can't wait.

I also neglected to note the Houston game, which probably vies with USU as the fourth most challenging. It is another home game, but features a talented throwing QB that racked up yards against us last year. That one could be the trap game, coming right after the Texas contest. However, I think BYU's DB's will be deeper and better prepared for Houston this time. Last year against them we were missing not just JJ and TT, but Bills as well IIRC.

Um, Texas will not have forgotten, nor the coaches, that they experienced probably their worst butt kicking last year in Provo. They will be ready and gnashing. Its BYUthat better not have any hubris going into Austin. BYU better bring their A game.

BYU will bring it. You can count on that. This will be the Marque game of the Cougar season. BYU does not think that it owns Texas already. BYU needs that Texas game to at least look competitive in order to even get a sniff of a play

-off game. Texas may remain annoyed at what happened last year, but BYU will not be their game of the year.
