Back in the day, HB Arnett had a great newsletter. He once had a very old motor home parked in a field somewhere that his subscribers could become part owners in and then get waivers that enabled them to pick up out of area ABC, NBC, CBS, etc., to get games that would otherwise not be available in your area. Innovative. He had inside info back then.

How would you rate his newsletter today?

Do you think he still has inside info today?

I think he still has inside info. I enjoy his newsletter. Been reading it for years. His analysis is as valid as anyone else's. But I tend to trust him.

It's a good thing that idea died out before social media came along. .....

The announcement might be done at Media Day later this month.

He also said they were not ACC/SEC, and one of them "is with a team that has a national brand and cache."

After the Internet shrinked the world, I gave up my HB Arnett and Dick Harmon subscriptions. I adhere to several strict principles in the BYU sports fan segment of my life. One is this: If it ain't free, I don't read it.

So - IDK - if these guys were able to build new relationships after Edwards and company retired, quit, or got run out of town.

It was all done in the open. He advertised it in his newsletter. At some point, the exemption was taken away.

Also not in the news, last week when asked at the Coaches Club dinner whether he thought BYU would be independent or in a conference five years from now, Holmoe did not hesitate to say in a conference and reaffirm BYU is ready to pay athletes to be competitive if that is the direction college football goes.

Every time I assume HB Arnett must be long gone and retired, he pops back up into my view. He probably needs some good marketing advice. Hard to find him and figure out what his offering is. Then I found it. Pretty much the same as the good olé days. $35 a year or $65 for two years. A free year if you renewed in May, and BYU goes undefeated. If they do not go undefeated, a free week extension for each win. Or $1 a week or $4 a month. Legalized gambling.

The best thing I saw were the NCAA licensed solid wood footballs and basketballs for about $159 or so. My birthday is Monday, so if you were wondering what to get me.......... or they would make great trophies for the winner of the football and basketball prediction contests......... innovative.

I like and respect HB Arnett. If I ever decide to violate my "if it ain't free" or "why buy the cow when milk is so cheap" policy - BAM. Just out of respect for someone who is such a part of the BYU legacy and memory - that is where I would go. Does Dick Harmon still have a pay to read product or did he sell his soul to the devil when he took the day job?

Legends.
