What we know?

We know that BYU is in the process/concluding an internal investigation. (Confirmed by an associate AD).



We know that Cody Hoffman was asked to come in and discuss allegations (we don't know what the actual allegations are).



We know that Duane Busby left his position at BYU roughly 2 months ago.



We know BYU (or NCAA for that matter) doesn't have subpoena power. Limits ways to obtain information.



We know BYU is thorough in their processes.



We know that BYU is strict with punishments.



We know everyone that puts their name to their comments hasn't provided any information that would require strict punishment.



We know it's about what can be proven, not about what actually happened.

Bottom line - this is being driven by speculation and drama from talking head radio pie holes. Not much "there - there." I genuinely believe the results will be nothing. But, it's good BYU is turning the stones over and putting the rumors and gossip to rest.

What we know is that the radio talking heads acted unprofessionally and irresponsibly in spreading rumor and forwarding unfounded speculation and that as to what really matters, we know virtually nothing.

I haven't been listening to talk radio much with the long weekend, but today was interesting on 1280--DJ and PK spending the entire morning drive to work defending themselves and other hosts on the station against angry texts saying they were off base, biased, and generally being out to make BYU look bad.

They thoroughly deny having any bias but then say things like BYU just needs to stop "cramming down people's throats" that BYU is "different", "special", or "better than everyone else". :roll: Right--that makes them sound pretty objective. lol

Someone on 1280 reportedly said "If you can't prove that Joseph Smith saw God, you can't prove that my sources are wrong." I didn't hear it, but that's what has been going around.

Do yourselves a favor and quit listening to local sports radio. I haven't listened in years and my life is better for it. The local hosts are a bunch of blowhards that never make a logical point. DJ and PK are the biggest idiots of the bunch with Gordon Monson being very close behind. And that is really saying something.

Do we know why it came out when it did? If 1320 turned this down a few months ago I have to think 1280 has been sitting on it for a while as well. If they did it because it's a slow news period I would think they would wait until the NBA finals were over.



Monty did speculate one day that they announced it when they did because 1280 is owned by the Jazz and it was announced the day after the lottery. The conspiracy theory was that they BYU story was put to cover up that the Jazz had a crappy year and still wouldn't get the pick they wanted.



Any idea how long BYU's internal investigation would last? Cody was contacted quit a while ago it sounded like. Hopefully they resolve it quickly now (but thoroughly) now that it is out in the news.

Times like these make me grateful that I don't live in Utah.

The talk today was it could take months to years for it to all be done with the speed that the NCAA moves. The radio guys are saying if they don't come out with a press conference before media day that media day could spiral into nothing but questions about the investigation--and that maybe BYU will just cancel it. Or perhaps (they speculate) BYU will have enough of their "own people" at media day they will play along and just shut out the "independent" media like them.

For the record, everything that comes out of local sports radio to me is mostly entertainment far more than news. They make a living by generating discussion and interaction--whether positive or negative it doesn't matter. I don't take much that they say very seriously.

BYU is doing the investigation, not the NCAA. It will be done before kickoff. Then the NCAA will review the findings and then possibly do something in the next couple of years. Most likely, they will accept the findings and not saw a word on it.
