Anybody else laughing at Hair T?

Apparently, no one has brought this up yet, so I will. I expect that most of you have seen the CBS Sports article and the Deseret News weigh-in. Perhaps it is so ridiculous as to not be worthy of much discussion. But it's still funny.



Hair Thompson seems to not know what he wants in his comments re BYU to CBS's Dodd. He seems to want to pile on with BYU bashing regarding scheduling, but he has no teeth with which to take any real bite. So he's trying to gum us to death. He knows that he has no substantive threat to make, but encroaches sideways like a cowardly cur, saying, (paraphrasing) we'll have to re- evaluate how to deal with them (BYU) as a conference. Also this: "We never played them for strength of schedule. We (only) played them due to convenience, geography, and because of history (he should have added, 'and so we can be seen on national TV).'"



This guy, if anything, is an unintentional comedian.



Just wondered if the rest of you reacted to this similarly, or differently.

It honestly amazes me that the guy still has a job every time I see that he is still the commish of the MWC.

I saw the article and didn't think anything of it. I guess he wanted some publicity for his conference. I like how everyone is talking about us though. Hopefully soon the Sun Belt will make an annoucement about how they view us.

Didn’t we booo him when he presented a MWC championship trophy in football once over the TV issue? Maybe he can't let that go?

This. He said they play BYU a lot and will continue to play BYU a lot. Regarding why Hair still has a job, Hawk, consider this:



BYU tried to strengthen The WAC at the expense of the MWC when BYU defected and went INDY.

Other programs were rumored to be considering jumping to the WAC

Hair saved the MWC and killed The WAC.

Conference realignment threatened the very existence of the MWC with PAC taking Utah, Big 12 taking TCU, Big East taking BSU and SDSU. Conferences eyeing AFA. BYU Indy.

Hair saved The MWC. Viewed as best of the rest nationally.



Having said that - BYU TV had a lot of fun with this story. Actually referred to him as Hair at least twice. Joked with fans tweeting about what it would take for BYU to return to MWC. Best answer was: demise of all other conferences in the country and unavailability of any conference in places like Nicaragua.



But, Seriously - BYU needs to schedule MWC teams and MWC teams need to schedule BYU. Quite frankly, The MWC has a better Bowl scenario than BYU has. Maybe a 4 game deal annually with Bowl sharing might be mutually beneficial.



I propose this:



MWC declares BYU as a special member. BYU agrees to play 6 games annually in October and November and then agree to play the MWC Champion in Honolulu annually. In return, BYU is an MWC team for Bowl Purposes. Just kidding about the Hawaii gig. Extra games are not a good idea.



Then BYU can try to round up 6 P5 and AAC teams to fill out the schedule.

Thompson is an idiot and everyone knows it. BYU is in a position of power when it comes to the MWC not the other way around. BYU is doing the MWC a favor by putting any of their teams on the schedule. If you read further into the article, he says the real reason why the MWC is rethinking its scheduling of BYU when he says that BYU joining the MWC would just guarantee a bunch more losses for its members. Really there are only 2-3 teams that are competitive with BYU in that conference and we already have them on most of our future schedules.

Remind us of this when BSU either has an off year and ends up in The Las Vegas Bowl like BYU once enjoyed annually or convetsely, is the highest rated G5 team and finds itself in a Top 6 Bowl or ranked #4 and in the playoffs. BYU has a disadvantage in this one area. BYU has advantages that more than offset this, but the relationship is not totally one-sided.



MWC and AAC and BYU will soon be the only schools of relevance outside of the P5.



That plus crumbs from P5, often with disadvantage, are who BYU must play while hoping to survive as an Independent.
