Heaps v2.0 Or just healthy "confidence"? Dude said "NAtional Championship" and "starting v Michigan in 2015. Really? Does he know something about Taysom leaving after next year? Did coaches tell him? Does he think he can beat out Senior Hill? Does he think he can beat out Mangum?

Either The Dude has some inside, privileged info that he just divulged (THill would be pissed), or he has big........brassies, or he's just another "quitter"/" transferer who wasn't going to get a good shot behind a better qb and s shooting off his mouth. Or just manic exciement and youthful reaction? What?

I'll say it. He quit on Missouri. He didn't think he'd get a good shot at Mizzou so he left. Very similar to Heaps who didn't think he could get a clean shot at BYU, so he left.



There is no way he'll beat out Hill in 2015 - unless of course, Hill isn't here to compete for the job.



Mangum gets home after this season, so he could be in the running for the starting job in 2015. But he'll be two years behind guys like Joey Green and a year behind Hosick and three+ years removed from competitive football. I think he's a safe bet for a 2015 RS.



Who knows, maybe the coaches told Hosick, you know, Jake Locker was a first round pick and he had numbers very similar to Taysom. If Taysom bolts for the NFL, we're going to be needing a new starter. We think that could be you.

I don't worry about kids making comments like that. I worry about whether or not they have the game to back it up. :)

Agree with the above, in wondering about the overly confident and their ability to perservere. But, in all fairness, Hosick does look quite audacious as a dual threat in his highlight video. I highly recommend reviewing that for anyone who hasn't yet seen it. This guy has great timing, is very smooth in his read-option decisions, and is difficult to tackle. Throws with accuracy on the run too, although he does not have the deep accuracy of John Beck.



I think this was a wise move by BYU staff, considering that we would be down to only two QB's in 2015 with graduation of Stewart, being left with only Hill and back-up Billy Green. Unless of course RM Mangum were ready to be thrown to the wolves as a true freshman, when he would be nearly three years without playing experience. I think Spiff's right; Mangum will be a RS for 2015.



I'm not too worried about the odds of HIll leaving early. We would just about have to be rewarded with a top ten finish and a New Year's day bowl win, before Taysom could be catapulted to the NFL after this season. However, I suppose that could happen, and that it would perhaps be preferable to lose Hill following a blaze of glory than to flounder in mediocracy for two more years. Is it overly ambitous to hope for two years of blazing glory? How about a consecutive string of five 1st team All American QB's like we had from 1976 to 1984? As fans, it doesn't hurt to dream a little.

Wish the kid well. If he is as good as reported above, makes me wonder why his talent wasn't recognized in Misery.

It doesn't matter who is on the team, i really think that Mangum would beat out just about anybody. i think he is the real deal and doubt anybody on our roster, including haskick, could keep him from starting.

I like the fact he's preparing for soonest time he could possibly see the field, and that's 2015. Sure, Hill would have to bolt for the NFL or get injured or completely lay an egg, but the soonest Hosick could get playing time is 2015. And if that day comes, hopefully Hosick will be ready. Should it get delayed a year, he'll be even more ready.



The national championship stuff is Bronco's goal, which is what he as coach should be aspiring too. Hosick is simply saying he'll do what it takes on his end to meet the teams' goals.

Could be a wildcat in the blue zone too,

Hopefully their will be open and fair competition settled in practice and on the field of play.

Doesn't matter. His eligibility clock is already ticking. His first year to play division one football was 2013. He has five years to play four starting in 2013. So his eligibility expires following the 2017 season.

in other words, it does matter. He has two options between now and then.



Play JC Ball and gain that experience.



Sit out the year at BYU but get practice and possible scout team experience.



Not sure when BYU has a scholarship available. That first year might be on his own dime. JC might cost less if money is an issue.



I agree, his expiration date is the same either way, but there is a choice of what to do while waiting for Spring 2015 to arrive with possible cost and affordability issues.



I am curious what his untold story about the split from MO is. Hope he is not a head case.

So I worded it wrong. He'll lose a year of playing time if he comes straight here. Other than the risk he won't come here after a year at JC, I think I'd prefer he goes and plays in live action than be on our scout team even though that means not building a relationship with our guys as quickly.
