Oregon State Fans Seem Pretty Classy

Been breezing through three of their most popular football forums.

They all respect BYU as a tough opponent, look forward to the game, think it will be close, and most shocking of all - I haven't seen a single mormon joke YET :bug:

Props to Oregon State and their fans, this game will be much more pleasurable playing against a team whose fans aren't complete asses.

Do they have a small stadium or piss poor overall fandom?

Their average home game attendance hovers just under 40,000 compared to BYU which is above 62,000 a home game?

Small stadium. Nike does not give them money to expand it.

I grew up in Oregon. Most people there are Ducks fans, and they are the obnoxious one. Oregon State fans typically are cooler.

The Beaver fans seem really well-grounded and overall excited for the bowl game. Let's make a good showing in Vegas like we did in Dallas vs OK and leave Oregon St. fans rooting for us next year because of how we acted.

The Beavs just renovated Reeser and Unlce Phil did give them money. He has long supported both schools. They have had trouble with attendance since the expansion, I believe only a few sellouts.

I know quite a few Oregonians, and in my experience, from the perspective of fan respectability and overall program class, Oregon State is to BYU as Oregon is to Utah. But then, you get that in a lot of rivalries. If Oregon is the showboaty, whiny, obnoxiously-entitled-feeling party, the Staters take it as a point of pride not to be, not unlike BYU. Slightly different, granted, due to the backgrounds of the schools, but it's my guess that OSU and BYU fans wouldn't be quite as pious if they didn't have something to be compared to. Corvallis has a more small-town, conservative feel, not necessarily politically, but more a homey, less glitz-and-glam way. I've got a buddy going to Williamette Law in Salem, and he likes the Staters a LOT more than the Ore-goners.

I think this'll be an overall positive and pleasant experience for both fanbases.

I had a friend tell me shortly after I moved up here that he knew I would never be an Oregon State fan since I was a BYU fan. That Oregon State=Utah and Oregon=BYU in the rivalry. I guess it all depends on perspective.

Naw, he must just have been referring to the parallel that OU absolutely dominated OSU for 20 years before OSU got a team in the mid-90's and actually made it a rivalry, just like BYU and Utah.

Your friend could be right, who knows. It is just a matter of perspective. I bet there are quite a few Beaver fans I couldn't stand. Shoot, there are quite a few BYU fans I can't stand!

Well, to be precise, were I to have said "most," I'd have probably been referring to people I wouldn't actually consider FANS. Don't get me wrong, though, I really can't stand it when people are fans in name only and are there to socialize, or are fans just for the sake of arguing with rivals (ala almost ALL :utard: fans). Excluding them, though, there aren't many ACTUAL fans of BYU I mind so much. I was referring to the ones who actually care, but are really obnoxious about everything, which I can safely say is a minority for real BYU fans. Lumping in all the rest of the aforementioned idiots, yeah, you'd be right, "quite a few" could likely climb into the lofty ranks of "most." Better?

I agree. I like most BYU fans, but then again, it depends on your definition of what a fan is.

The air conditioning in my car doesn't work (18yo car....) and I have a fan I can plug into the cigarette lighter. I like it most of the time.
