Wait, are we talking Timpview or Timpanogas High? I don't think there is just a Timp HS.

Great get for my kids' HS. It will be interesting to see what he can do at a 4a, should be 3a, school. The former coach moved on to Lehi, which is a more talent laden, 5A school.

In Utah, almost the only thing that matters with regard to classification is the enrollment size. The only factor they look at outside of enrollment size is location.



For example, the three schools down in St. George were big enough to be 4A schools, but were kept in 3A because putting them in a 4A region (closest similarly sized schools were in Utah County) would have required too much travel-especially for Soph and JV football games where school time would be missed as well. (I believe this changed a few years ago, but was the norm for about a decade).



There is a 2A or 1A team (can't remember) that would compete with the really good 5A schools (it's a private boarding school), but the UHSAA won't move them up. So they drill everyone by 40. The 2nd best team in the division held the ball for the full 4th quarter, just so they could stay within 20 points.



The UHSAA doesn't really care about competition or rivalries when it comes to classification. So, since Timpanogas has 4A enrollment, they play in 4A.

Isn't this pretty typical of all high school athletics?
