10 Seed

I was really surprised to see us on the 10 line. The committee says that injuries won't keep you from a tournament bid, but that they can affect your seeding.



Wouldn't that imply that BYU was actually higher on the board than we thought? And if so, how much higher would BYU had been all things remaining constant - except we have a healthy KC?



I think we would have been in the 8-9 game, much like Gonzaga.

Maybe. I think we still would have gotten a 10 seed.

Still a 10. I think if they wanted to punish the team for an injury then they would've been an 11 or 12. 10 is a gift.

I think had we gone 3-2 in our 5 bad losses (Utah, LMU, Pepperdine, Portland, Pacific) probably would have been a 7. 4-1 or 5-0, could have been a 5 seed. If we had gone 2-1 against Gonzaga, a 4. If we had hung on and beat ISU and Oregon or beaten UMass probably a 3 or 4 seed. Beaten Wichita State (ie undefeated), BYU would be the 2 seed in the West (moved down a line because of Sunday play).

In one interview with the head of the selection committee, he indicated that they did factor the injury into the seed. I got the impression from his comments that BYU would have been seeded better had the injury not occurred. However, I can't believe that they would have been better than a 9 seed.

Still a blessing. A 10 seed is better than an 8 or 9.

I was very surprised when BYU was given a 10 seed. So many times when we appeared worthy of so much higher of a bid than we received, and this time believing from the media that we were deep on that bench of "bubble teams" that should be grateful that we were merely in the conversations--boom--a 10 seed.



It's been so infrequent that we've been surprised with a higher seeding (if ever) that I'm still in shock.



I remember too reading in the media that the lady Cougs had no chance in heck of a bid and then to find them with a 12 seed.



All I can say is the majority of the prognosticators ought to buy a new set of colored goggles because they had not clue on what was reality.



Such a wonderful surprise.

The only lady bracket I saw had us in it and I think it was a higher seed. I think they won 25 games this year too. There is another thread for them.



By the way I met with the Chamber President today. She said she heard we had a great football team, or baseball or basketball. You know one of those sports. I think her son goes to Oregon and mentioned that we are playing. And by the way we had a nice gospel discussion today.
