Wow, Gonzaga and BYU got some love from the selection committee - an 8 and a 10 seed... I had the Zags as a 10 seed and BYU as a 12. Cougs are in trouble vs. Oregon, especially without KC. One guy on the selection show thought it was a joke BYU got in.

Impressive seeding for BYU. This comes from BYU's extremely aggressive non-conference schedule and willingness to play anyone.

Next year, other teams are going to follow what BYU did this year... play a lot (in BYU's case, 9) non-conference games against quality opponents, just win a few of them and you'll get into the tournament, especially if you're a top 50 program or play in a weak conference. The Cougs went 2-7 in the important non-conference games and were rewarded for it. :lol:

Congrats Cougs! Was not expecting a 10 seed.



Good news, we''ll likely have a bigger crowd in Milwaukee than Oregon. We barely lost to Oregon. Poor click management and poor free throw shooting lost us that game.



KC will certainly be missed, but I think it's doable.

Adding to Hawks SOS statement, BYU played 9 teams that are seeded and going to the big dance.



They beat:

7 Texas

8 Gonzaga

10 Stanford

16 Mt. St. Mary's

16 Weber State



They lost to:

1 Wichita St

3 Iowa State

6 UMASS

7 Oregon

8 Gonzaga (twice)

If Barkley picks up his game, as he did vs Gonzaga, and Winder/Carlino/Mika return to last 8-game form, BYU could make a good run. They also need Mika, Austin, Worthington, Sharp to get rebounds, and Haws & others to play defense and get at least four players in double figures points and making FTs. It's doable vs OR as this team has been wildly inconsistent.

Your lack of understanding, as evidenced by pretty much all of your comments (you really thought BYU might get sent to play in Dayton in one of the last 4 in play-in games against a top 5 seed? Say it ain't so Joe....errr...Wolfie :roll: ) make it very difficult to lend any credibility to any comment you might make. If you took the time to listen to the NCAA selection committee chairman, he mentioned in his interview how the committee to into account the entire body of work from November to March. Hence SMU's 300 plus OOC ranking and their 130'ish overall SOS left them on the outside looking in. Your premise that BYU's wins against Utah State, Weber State weren't "important" wins in your eyes doesn't mean they weren't important wins when the committee evaluated the resume. Fact of the matter is, without those two wins (as well as others) BYU is in the NIT tonight instead of dancing in Milwaukee come Thursday as a #10 seed. Nothing for you to see here Wolfie. Now please move along :) Go Cougars!

I guess the committee really doesn't take injury into account. I think a ten seed is quite deserving WITH KC. Not so sure without him. In any event quite pleased. If I were OR I'd be bummed. They barely and luckily (broad definition of luck being used here ;) ) beat us on their home floor and now they have to play us again......

I fully believe that while the biggest reason for our favorable seed was our top 5 rated nonconference schedule, I also think Dave Rose has earned a lot of respect in the college hoops community and that was favorable. And as you see above, he earned it.

Anyone notice that CBS had us out (not even the first four out last week) until this morning when they suddenly have us in the final bracket before the selection show on CBS... makes you wonder.

Clearly, you don't know what I was saying - the Cougs lost 7 of their 9 important, quality non-conference games while also having 4 bad losses to teams ranked 110 or worse in the nation... just because you have a tough non-conference schedule shouldn't mean diddly-squat if you can't win the majority of them. Had BYU gone 5-4 or better, then they would have an argument to get in, but they didn't... they went 2-7 while losing to WCC powerhouses Pepperdine, Pacific, Portland and Loyola-Marymount. :blush: The CBS commentator who was upset that BYU got in has a valid beef... in fact, Green Bay (Wisconsin) should have gotten in over BYU.
