Aaaand...our Bowl contracts suck for yet ANOTHER reason!

Unbelievable. We thought it couldn't get worse with the Emerald bowl getting first pick over Vegas (our conference having been the grunt-horse for getting BOTH on their feet before the Emerald dumped us). Nope. It just got worse, folks.



BYU fans, up to now, THOUGHT that whereas the Emerald and the Vegas USED to switch years between Pac-10 #4 and #5 (unless better geographical sense was made with a mutually-agreed upon switch), that now the Emerald would always get the #4 and the Vegas would always get the #5. INCORRECT!



We've just found out that the Emerald Bowl, EVERY YEAR, gets FIRST choice of EITHER the #4 OR the #5. Or, even worse, in years the Pac-10 has a tie for 5th, it gets its choice of 4th (or last picked in a tie for higher, sometimes worse) AND ALL 5th place finishers REGARDLESS GEOGRAPHICAL SENSE, and the Vegas Bowl is STUCK with whichever less-desirable is left over.



This is an unbelievable CROCK of STUPIDITY (or think of another suitable word starting with the same letter).



Remind me again why Hair Thompson hasn't been fired for how PISS POORLY he's handled our Bowl Arrangements???

Wow, thanks for pointing that out. I really can't believe that the LV bowl and the MWC conference is still letting this stuff happen. Although, I'm not sure what they can do about it. Conference affiliations tied to bowl agreements are killing college football.

Darn it! Instead of getting UNRANKED USC or UNRANKED Cal, we get Oregon State, the 2nd Highest PAC-10 team in the National Rankings! That sucks! :bug: :skeptic: :roll:

Tee hee, Mars, point is, in EVERY SITUATION, we're given LEFTOVERS, and now, we know, EVEN IN BCS games. That's maddening to me. You can't be SO contrary that you're not bothered by it too!?!?

If we beat OSU it looks better for us going into next year's preseason polls, after that, meh. If we beat USC it looks better 3 years from now when USC is back to pounding everyone.

Point is, leftovers this year beat first dibs. If they're this stupid every year, it only benefits us.

Point is, leftovers this year beat first dibs. If they're this stupid every year, it only benefits us.

I get the feeling that not every year it is going to come down to USC or team-X from Pac-10.



This year will be the exception, not the rule.

I think you need to chill out man. We should be overwhelmed with the joy that we are even playing in the post season. I just hope we can keep the game with OSU close through the first quartar. As long as I don't see our secind and third stringers before the fourth quartar I'll be tickled pink and purple.

I think the MWC bowl contracts are actually pretty good this year. The top three MWC teams are all playing ranked teams.

Actually Cal is not ranked, they fell out this week. If Cal wins they will end ranked.

I don't think anyone should do much itching about the bowl opponents until we consistently beat them like Utah does. We lost to Arizona last year. OSU is btter than the team we lost to last year. We are not clearly any better than we were last year. The year prior to that, we beat UCLA by 1 point in a magical finish. The year before that, we had a blast kicking Oregon's crap on a cold night, but lost to Cal the year before that.



So the LV Bowl keeps producing matchups resulting in BYU winnig half of the time - and someon wants to itch about the quality of ouropponents. What do you want to do - lose 90% of the time.

Here's the problem: If TCU loses one game this year, then they would have been relegated to playing the fifth best PAC 10 team. Sure, it's all worked out pretty nicely when Utah and TCU have made BCS bowl games, but THE BEST TEAM IN THE MWC DESERVES BETTER THAN THE FIFTH PLACE PAC 10 TEAM, and there's no guarantee that they get it.

I'm not buying into this mentality. BYU seems to play to level that they perceive their opponent to be. If they don't think all that much about their opponent they don't get very up for the game. Arizona last year was perceived to be a nobody and we didn't show up. I think we would show up more often if we were playing a better (more respected) team each year.

the problem with the whole "well we don't even always with the LV Bowl" argument is that the years we DO win we are usually the much better team. The times we've lost our bowl games were years that we really weren't as good as we thought we were. But what about the years where we ARE very good and COULD beat a higher ranked team? We'd get screwed anyway, being pitted against some mediocre Pac-10 team. We are lucky this year to have a Pac-10 that is so solid, but that's not going to happen every year...

Again, how many times has the MWC #1 team lost the Vegas bowl? (ZERO) Just because we've been fortunate enough to have our #1 go to the BCS three different times, doesn't mean that it will always happen. The two times we've lost the Vegas bowl we were the #3 and #5 (I think) team out of the MWC.
