WCC Commish Gone?

Tweets coming out that WCC commissioner, Jamie Zaninovich is going to the Puke12 as deputy commish and COO.



I think he was going a great job, but I'll get back to you on that. If BYU doesn't get their ticket punched for the Dance, then he should be bounced out anyway for that would mean that the WCC is one-team conference and that is bush league. Any voting commissioner that can't get more than one invite for his conference, then he isn't doing his job very well (when the numbers are there as they were for the conference this year).



My point is that BYU needs to get the nod, even if a power conference team has slightly better numbers, but their conference already has 5 plus teams in the Dance. The WCC doesn't have full control over conference strength of schedule as power conferences control who gets in, and more importantly, who doesn't. Don't penalize us for that. We played one of the top non-conference schedules and did it mainly on the road.

It will be great though to have someone who really knows BYU and saw what they brought to a conference in the Puke12

He must be hoping the PAC12 commish doesn't stay long and an assistant must get paid better than a president does in the WCC. Otherwise, I don't get the move.



Big question is who does the WCC get to replace him? Didn't think he was doing a bad job.

It's more money. It's a more prestigious conference. He probably needs this on his resume to become a top conference commissioner.



I think this will have zero impact on whether BYU gets in to the Pac 12.



He obviously won't have any answers for their terrible ref situation.



I liked him as a commissioner though. Was actually very fair to BYU.

There's very little in life that has "zero impact", but I understand your doubt. Still, I cannot conceive in any logical form how having someone in the PAC12 that has a positive experience from dealing with BYU could ever be negative.

What's everyone bragging and propping on him for? I thought he was conspicuously neutral, if not silent toward BYU. In fact I rarely if ever thought I saw any tweet-love from that guy.

The thought that he would rep BYU in Pac-o-crap is totally ludicrous and fantasy. The Commish is a total puppet to the putrid liberal pond scum. What does that make the Assistant Commish?

I don't begrudge the guy advancement. Good for him. I just don't get the praise.

Credit him for hanging on to Gonzaga and adding BYU and UOP. Beyond that, not sure I saw anything earth shattering. WCC is a stepping-stone conference and he did an adequate job and moved on. I do not expect The WCC to suffer from this loss.



He certainly has seen the good and bad that BYU brings to a conference. Hopefully felt it was mostly positive. That is, at best, a minor benefit to BYU going forward.



Not sure he would have much sway on the football side - the only side that matters in college sports anymore - which probably has a lot to do with his move - experience in a football conference.

Adding two teams that instantly make the conference better is nothing to sneeze at. How many commissioners have been able to do that? Look at the PAC12, they added 2 teams that instantly made the conference worse. Perhaps that is why the PAC12 is bringing him in.

Generally speaking, the result has been that bringing in Colorado and Puketah has been to provide the conference with some middle of the road conference schools. Maybe that's what they wanted. The Puke12 has all the respect they need, so I don't know that they needed a Texas or Oklahoma to make it tighter at the top. Adding a Texas and a Notre Dame to anyone's conference is always going to be a no-brainer and the type of results that should get you a good raise.



I'm glad Jamie is going if only for the fact that I don't have to look up how to spell his last name again when I'm referring to him in a post. I've never used it enough and he's not in the limelight enough that I would have remembered how to spell it.

Adding BYU definitely made WCC better. Not sure adding UoP did. But, holding off rumors of Gonzaga and or BYU to the New Big East did help. Not sure how real that threat was.



Not sure how much credit he deserves for adding BYU. That fell right into his lap. Glad he sized the opportunity, however.



Perhaps he missed an opportunity to change the WCC away from its heritage and create a powerhouse West Coast BB conference by grabbing all things not PAC of merit. UNLV, NM, USU, BSU, Nevada, Fresno State, SJSU, SDSU, etc., and adding football. Maybe he was wise not to do so given that mixing BB only schools with FB schools blew up in Big East.
