Best lineup change this season?

And why...



I'm going with Winder. Carlino's benching was a big deal and certainly helped, but the team still coudn't play any D at all. Winder changes that. He is excellent on the ball and always finishes in transition on O. If this team wants to do damage in the tourney they need important stops--only Winder can get us W's when it comes to it.

Agreed. BYU lost their first couple of games after the Carlino benching.

BYU beat teams they lost to with Winder starting. Hands down the best lineup change has been Winder. Dynamic is much better.

Are you sure? Recall Carlin was switched to starting 2 before he was benched for Halford. Seems to me Halford lit it up in his first start and played well in his 2nd start and then MC caught fire coming off the bench.



This is why I picked MC benching.



Making MC the starting 2 was a disaster. Benching him was pure genius.



Do not let the disaster cloud your voting for the actual benching. The starting 2 move may be the worst move of the season.



Winder had a bad start a week ago. 3 or so good to outstanding ones. Winder is my 2nd choice. Might have gone with Winder, but benching Carlin has paid dividends for 2 months. The Winder move - 2 or 3 weeks.

BYU's problem all year until Winder got the starting nod is perimeter defense. He fixed that. BYU is playing its best right now because of Winder. He needs to be the starting guard from now on (until he graduates) simply because when he is not on the floor, BYU has no perimeter defense.

Everyone gets Beat on the perimeter. Guards are so fast now days that it is nearly impossible to stay in front of them 100% of the time. Jackson Emery got beat of the dribble too. What makes Winder good on defense is the fact that since he has been in the starting lineup, guys haven't had career days from behind the 3 point line on us. If Winder had been starting earlier in the year, we may not have lost some of the head scratcher games to lower level WCC teams on the road.

You didn't fix a thing for me. I meant exactly what I said.



As a starter, Winder is averaging over 15 points a game. Between KC, Haws, and Winder that gives us 3 starters averaging 15+ a night.



Regarding the "brass ring" that Winder apparently failed to grasp, he never got starter minutes prior to being a starter. If you want to talk about a player not grasping the brass ring, talk about Halford who as a starter did practically nothing except for one game.



Winder statrting at the 2 has been a game changer for us.

early - the battle for the 2 was wide open including playing various players out of position. Winder got as many minutes as Halford or anyone else. Struggled. So MC got a shot at it. Big mistake. Then Halford got a shot. Looked good for 2 games - then faded. So Winder got a shot. Winder is a junior who has been in the program a long time - he should have been ready to step up when he got his shot. Perhaps that motivated him. Certainly worked on his FT shooting. Night and day difference. I would guess that he worked a lot on shooting. He looked tense early and in prior years. Looks relaxed now.

Carlino was a critical season turn around move. This season was headed toward a disaster. Winder and Mka are the finishing touches to the rotational problems. But saving Mika is also huge. His foul trouble was a big deal. All great moves by themselves but synergistically showing great returns.

But you left off another coaching move--Kc to the point. he has beqen the most consistent all around player and filled up the stat sheet again today.

See the guard myths thread. Winder got his shot to win the job at the start of the season and failed to step up. His play was muchdifferent then.

Bib, you are absolutely correct. Winder did not step up early. IMO, the GFGH offense created a lot of problems. BYU is still fast in their possessions, but there is more a settled O--and most of that came from getting Carlino out of the starting PG spot and Rose realizing that GFGH wasnt going to fly. Now Winder has some semblance of an offense to work within. And credit him, he has stepped up in some significant, non primary scorer ways. But he is the media and fan darling novelty right now and so i get that some folks are particualrly giddy and linear in their thinking instead of being systemic and looking at the whole.
