LMU

BYU gets LMU who I have long thought is one of the more dangerous/desperate teams in the WCC.



Anthony Ireland is one of those guys who when he is on, is a game changer.



STILL expecting BYU to win by 15. :D

Watched the LMU game. That was some sloppy sloppy ball.



Agree about Ireland. He's a great handler and if we collapse on him he can find the open man.



LMU's pressure defense looke good too, but it was Portland.

If we handle the pressure as badly as Portland did and give up 20 turnovers, we lose to LMU as well. I think we have 3-4 better ball handlers than Portland, so I think we'll be ok.

RPI 188 LMU beat RPI 170 Portland. Not a major upset. Only SCU has a lower RPI in WCC. They are 217.



Ironically, Portland swept LMU during the regular season. They beat them by 14 on the road and by 7 at home in Portland - so home vs away was not an advantage in their series.



Anything can happen in tournament play.

LMU shot the three pretty well vs BYU this season. They are not normally good at it. We played them in December and early January. Our defense vs the 3 has improved, seemingly.



Another thought.



Normally, a bye is a huge advantage given that a fresh team gets a lower ranked opponent who is tired. WCC scheduling, perhaps due to the need to accommodate BYU men and women in the same arena and not playing Sunday - skips Friday for men, and LMU gets to rest up a bit and prepare a bit. At least, they are much lower seed.



Another thought



Watched 2 seed BYU women smoke the Waves or whoever it was today. At one point, they were still 100% FT shooting and ended up shooting FT pretty well. Not sure if that was typical, but perhaps Judkins and the girls could give the boys some tips.

The key to beating LMU is underneath... rebounding and foul trouble... plain and simple.



LMU is 245th in the country in rebounding.



If we get a solid game from Mika AND Austin, we win handily. If not it comes down to 3 point shooting and perimeter defense and I think

we're finding that's a 50/50 proposition for BYU away from Provo. We can win with outside shooting, but we can lose with it too.



With a small team like LMU, we should focus on their weakness, which is our big men. We won at home handily and outrebounded them by 10 and Mika was still hurt and didn't play. If we let it be a shoot out, I fear it's a coinflip.



If you look at the Portland box score you'll see some glaring stats. LMU was in foul trouble with their bigs and Portlands bigs were scoring. The problem for Portland is they didn't get the ball enough to their bigs and turned the ball over trying to do other things. The Portland bigs were efficient and yet Portland got away from it and played into LMUs hands.

KC had the most boards in Provo. Bartley did in LA. It is time for Austin and Mika and Worthington to show up.



KC led scorers in LA. Can't remember exactly what was up with Haws injury situation at that point - Shot under 27%. KC will be key.

Good win. Great minutes by Winder and KC was dominant. We won despite not hitting a single 3.

He had a shot early in the season and did not grab the brass ring. He clearly has improved. Still not sure what caused the poor outing a week ago other than ROAD TRIP. Early in the season, his shooting at the line was below 70%. I think he has hit 100% three times since starting - with a 25% a week ago.



Rose has done a good job of developing several players during the course of this season. If they can all learn to shoot free throwsthis summer - BAM.



Think how worried many were about how we replace Mika next year and that Austin would not be a contributor and that Worthington should be cut. Rose is bringing players along. BYU will be better next season - even without Mika.

I can't believe we go 0-12 from 3pt and still score 85 and win by 11pts. Austin and Winder were the heart of the defense today. LMU climbed back into it at the end of the first half while Nate and Anson were on the bench in foul trouble. Mika was almost a non-factor today.

You might want to go back and keep an eye on the other heart of the defense - KC.
