MWC Conference - Ranked Teams

SDSU is 10th in most polls

New Mexico is in the Top 25



MWC was a very good basketball conference. It is still a pretty good one without BYU and Utah.



Boise State started out strong. UNLV will be dangerous in the conference tournament.



WCC is a fun conference. Gonzaga, BYU, SMC, and USF are all dangerous this year.

According to Real Time RPI site



After SDSU 16 and NM 17, they drop sharply to the next couple. Boise State 71. UNLV 103 is just outside the top 100. So they only have 3 top 100. USU is well below UNLV.



WCC has Gonzaga 24, BYU 35, SMC 60, and USF 65 - all in the top 100.



BYU has 4 bad losses - all WCC games - on the road, of course.

Wow...surprised at how low UNLV is.

I think the MWC is still a stronger conference than the WCC. Head to head (on a neutral floor) I think they would win.



SDST vs GU - SDST wins

NM vs BYU - Toss up

UNLV vs SF - Probably UNLV

BSU vs SMC - Toss up

USU vs Pep. - USU

WY vs SD - WY or Toss up



and the rest would be toss ups although history would probably point in MWC favor. Hence why I kind of feel like our team has been "playing" down a little to the new level of competition. I will say I was glad it was better this year than previous years but I still think it is a few ticks below MWC.

I think the two leagues are pretty comparable. The WCC doesn't have a team as good or as poor as San Diego St or San Jose St.



Both teams middles seem about even. I think the teams at the top would probably split home/home with the top teams from the other league.

Actually I was ignoring SJST. I think in conf match ups the extra team is left out and the extra team is usually the last place team in the conf with more teams.

I believe tough places to travel to enjoy more home court advantage. A big difference between WCC and MWC imho is the number of venues with easy vs limited travel.

I don't agree that a large arena, big crowd is necessarily a bigger home court advantage than a small arena. They both play differently on a teams psyche. Altitude can't be a home court advantage if you're a team from altitude as well.



On a MWC sidebar, UNLV is a weird one. They have as much talent as most top 10-20 teams, but have been pretty unremarkable. If they could pull it together, they would be a scary good team. The way they are now, I wouldn't be surprised if they beat or lost to just about any team. They are that schizophrenic.

It is not so much the size of the arena as it is how full the arena is and who is filling it. The MC will not have more than half the seats filled with fans of our opponents. Most WCC venues do every time BYU visits.



Re altititude, that is why WCC is different for BYU. None of the WCC teams besides BYU have significant altitude.



BYU had a 16 point average margin of victory with WCC opponents this season. How do you explain it?

Watching the SDSU vs New Mexico game right now and this is horrible basketball. These guys are overrated and a lot of the teams in the WCC would give them a run for their money
