Watching the Pacific game, he was the only non-D1 athlete on the floor for either team.

Don't get me wrong, he tries really, really hard, but he's not a 15+ min a night guy.

I think Winder starts on Thursday.

I support that.

I also think we can get Gonzaga. But it will take a similar effort to what we gave vs St. Mary's.

Although I don't think we can afford to take the first 10 minutes off like we seemed to do vs the Gaels.

I really hope Winder starts.

I like Halford's hustle, but he's not getting it done. With a front court that's hurting for points, we need all the fire power in the backcourt we can get.

On the season, Winder is shooting 50% from the field and 39% from the three-point line.

Halford is at 46% from the field and 34% from the three. Once again, our three point "specialist" isn't much of a specialist.

Now, Winder's FG% will likely drop a bit with more minutes as he takes more shots, but Winder comes in at 6'3" and 195 lbs while Halford is at 6'1" and 180 lbs (I think they rounded up on the weight). Winder has a full 2 inches and at least 15 lbs on Halford, plus better length and better defense.

Both are prone to rushing and making mistakes, but given the better shooting percentage, better defense and better size, Winder should be getting all of Halford's minutes.

I'm in. Winder needs more minutes. It's not the scoring, it's the pathetic D we've witnessed all season.

Yep. Carlino wasn't cutting it as a starter and neither is Halford.

But, then again, Winder hasn't tore it up either. Wait for it vs the Zags. He will look OK but not spectacular. The problem is with your boy Carlino who can't figure it out. He's the one who should be starting but can't seem to figure it out.

In fact, look for Halford to get more PT vs GU and another slow white guy who over-achieves--Little Stockton.

If Halford was still hitting his shots I don't think we would care as much about his defense, or be calling for a change. I think he shut down Johnny dee from USD when we played them, but that was a long time ago now. His shot has kinda Faded away since he got the starting job and I think it makes us see his other shortcomings as well. If he does play, please, please, please start hitting those shots.

I think we all saw him as a defensive upgrade over Carlino as well as a more under control player. I think he does play under control better but he's just too small to play the kind of D we need out there.

Halford was supposed to bring hustle and consistency. He had one outstanding game, the rest have been ho hum.

I'm in favor of starting MC - he's the best option we have at PG. But MC starting isn't a popular idea. Halford clearly isn't working. So, bring in Winder.

Isn't Halford the best pure shooter on the team?

And isn't Carlino the worst?

Nor is MC starting as a PG a statistically popular idea.

Case in point. Yep. Tho Halfords numbers have gone way down as a starter as well.

Does this mean we have a bunch of back up players? Now Winder will get thrown into the mix.......for awhile. I think Rose has to look at match ups and start the best suited. Half did great on Johhny shoot em up. But struggled vs SMC and others.

It is very telling about our team that we still don't know who the starting PG should be. That's just sad. Any good tourney team has had this figured out from day one and here we are looking at Plan C one week before the conference tourney. LOL amazing that we are still alive.

Scarier still...who is going to run point next year?

This season is what it is but I certainly hope Rose walks away realizing he needs a PG. KC is not a PG and while he provides a good band-aid to a problem, KC isn't a long term fix. KC's talents and abilities would be better utilized at the 3 or 4. If KC has aspirations of playing at the next level, he needs to have a long talk with Rose because it's not going to be as a PG and likely won't be as a 2 either.

As much as many don't like MC as a starter, MC never should have lost his starting spot or certainly should have been restored to it after a few games.

We're headed into crunch time without a rudder.

At the time, Carlino had to be taken out of the starting lineup. He was out of control, couldn't distinguish between a bad shot and a horrible shot, and was keeping our team from really clicking. I think he's Been good enough and controlled enough now to get his starting spot back, but I don't think Coach Rose agrees wth me.

"Never should have lost his starting spot"????? Mr Short-term memory much?

But yes, BYU needs a true PG--but when was the last time BYU had a true PG? Don't think BYU can plan on it.

Um.....Halford is better defensively than Winder. Everytime I have seen Winder he has been a step slow on defense, and ends up chasing his man far too often. If Winder makes buckets, then great. But don't count it as a defensive upgrade. Also, isn't Winder smaller than Halford?

So... he's smaller, and less athletic, and doesn't know how to pass the ball? That will work great as our starting 2 guard!

Or we could just bring Carlino back in, since he seems to have learned his lesson, and is the best option for point guard.

Posted earlier in the thread. Winder has a couple of inches and at least 15 lbs on Halford. While Winder may end up chasing defenders, Halford just gets ran over.

The right answer would be to bring Carlino back. And, based on some numbers I ran the other week, there really doesn't appear to be a causation between Carlino's performance and him coming off the bench.
