BCS bowl pairings predictions

OK so how does everyone think this season's BCS bowl season is going to shape out? Since the Bix XII champ will almost certainly be in the title game and there is no other Big XII at large team, the Fiesta Bowl will get to pick two at large teams as will the Sugar Bowl for losing the SEC champ to the title game. That means the order of the bowl picks this year should go Fiesta, Sugar, Orange, Fiesta, Sugar.



My Prediction:

BCS Title: *Alabama* v. Texas (all but certain)

Rose: *Oregon* v. *Ohio State* (lock)

Fiesta: Penn State v. Boise State

Orange: *Georgia Tech* v. Cincinatti

Sugar: Florida v. TCU



So first of all, the "automatics" are Alabama,Texas, Oregon, Ohio State, Georgia Tech, Cincinnati and TCU. That leaves room for three at-larges. Florida most certainly will be one. If Boise gets left out I think there will be a lot of outrage that a team as high as #6 could get left out. And then it would probably come down to either Penn State/Iowa for the last at-large since they are thought of as "big money-makers". I think the Fiesta would like to play off of the last BSU Fiesta Bowl to try and recreate that buzz from the last Fiesta bowl showcasing Boise but know they can pick them with their second pick and could take a money maker like Penn State with their first pick. Then the Sugar Bowl will likely keep their SEC connection by taking Florida. Then the Orange Bowl (who only has one pick since the ACC champ already is locked in) would likely take the best remaining option, Cincinnati, who they figure would sell more tickets and generate more TV ratings than the fledgling TCU. Fiesta then selects BSU and the Sugar gets stuck with the last remaining "automatic" TCU, which Florida won't be happy about. It would work out for TCU though as it provides the closest option for TCU fans and would also recreate similar buzz after last season's MWC/SEC showdown in the Big Easy.

No way does Penn State get in over Iowa; otherwise the teams that will play are probably right.

However, I'm not sure that BCS wants to pit 1+ loss teams with no loss teams; because then there's a chance that up to 4 teams finish undefeated at the end of the season; which doesn't do a lot for the BCS and BCS lobbyist and spin-guru Ari "antiChrist" Fleischer.

They have pretty similar fan bases that both travel. Iowa may not have been in awhile (more excited fans) but Penn State has the JoePa factor and probably more national appeal. Also, I would say that Penn State presents a better team than Iowa who barely escaped a bunch of games with the a win, some of which they can thank the officials for.

All I know is if they put TCU and BSU in the same game, we'll know it's rigged because those would be the two lowest draws being taken by the same bowl. We'll know the Fiesta was held at gun-point by the BCS then or maybe that the other bowls are willing to share revenue with the Fiesta in order to see that at least there aren't two undefeated non-AQ's in the same season, with BCS bowl wins over the traditional "power teams".



More evidence of a rigged Fiesta Bowl is that the bowls and pundits always talk about how much they hate bowl repeats or re-matches. TCU and BSU both were undefeated and played in the Poinsettia Bowl last year. Facing them off against each other again the next year would go against the grain.

That doesn't matter and never has. After the auto's are slotted, the at-larges can be any team in the top 14 and the bowls are looking the make the most money possible.

ESPN thinks TCU will play Boise State . I can't think of a worse thing that could happen. If TCU wins it won't prove how good of a team they really are this year. I want to see TCU play Florida so bad it hurts. The BCS just gets worse year after year.

One side thought is how great it would be for 2 non AQ's to make it into a BCS bowl in the same year. Thats got to be around 30 million dollars that would not make it into the pockets of the "major conferences" and into the pockets of the "little guys".

Lets all hope that this projetion is wrong. I don't think many people want to see Cinci play Florida. A Cinci Boise State game would be a better game with TCU getting the chance to play Florida.

I'm sorry if TCU and Boise are forced to play and the BCS teams dont' get tested by the non BCS... then congress does need to get involved.



Let the non BCS prove themselves against the BCS; otherwise, I will sign any petition, boycott every BCS bowl that doesn't involved BSU /TCU (including the NC), I'll make a phone call to my local representative, anything I can do....



I'll also call whoever wins that game the national champion for the remainder of my life.

Boise TCU already happened last year; if the BCS can't see that matchup is bad for everyone involved, then they all need to burn in hell.

I agree with you craig, it would be a joke on college football to isolate the non-AQ teams from the AQ teams in the BCS bowl games. And like you said, that game was played last season, where is the intrigue in a rematch when there is nothing on the line???



If Joe Barton is still the rep in Ft, Worth, he'll make alot of political hay out of this.

Correction, TCU was 11-1 going into that game, the lost to Utah, Boise was undefeated, but TCU won the game.

I would love to see TCU play Florida, I am convinced TCU is the best team in the country and would love to see them get to prove themselves against the Gators.

Well it happened. Why is the Fiesta a homer to the BCS? Was that the best matchup that they could get? This just means there is one less bowl game that I will be watching. The thing that I fear is that this game will get the lowest tv ratings and then they will so see we told you. You don't deserve an auto bid. The WAC and MWC need to support this game and make sure it is a success.
