Who was the last LOI day surprise?

Traditionally we have had our whole class locked up by the arrival of the national Letter-of-Intent day each first Wednesday in February. Generally speaking I've seen reflections that our 2014 class is ranked somewhere in the 70's, which is quite a drop from the norm. I still believe the class has some solid commitments (Isaiah Kaufusi, Matt Bushman, Nick Kurtz, 6-other 3-star recruits, etc.), but I don't remember since I really started following any of our FB recruiting in this century when we were in play for as many players as we are for this 2014 class (supposed outstanding scholarship offers):

Damien Mama (Scout 5-star)

Fred Warner (Scout 4-star)

Courtland Sutton (Scout 3-star)

Isaiah Nacua (Scout 3-star)

Devon Blackmon (Scout 3-star)

Jordan Schlueter (Scout 3-star)



As has been noted, we generally don't fair well when it comes down to NLOI day. Can anyone think of any significant surprises in this century?

I thought OFA MOHETAU was an LOI suprise. Big 5-star OL recruit from Texas that Crowton got to come our way.

I guess the better question is then, have we ever gotten a 5-star that stayed and lived up to their billing?

My big surprise is the UTEP transfer Leslie. 3 year starter and top pass catcher for the miners. 1 year to play 1, huge upgrade at WR....... Now waiting for the MAMA decision.

Andrew Rodriguez. He's played two years at Houston and had plans to walk-on for BYU.
