Mama cancels trip to BYU this weekend............

Being reported he will visit UCLA instead. This week is going down the toilet in a hurry..........To have any chance at Mama we probably needed him there for Jan 31st.

I usually check BYU sports sites first thing this morning, but I had other hot issues. I get on now and it sounds like there have been a lot of disappointments in the last few days for BYU recruiting. I hope next week brings brighter days. I used to follow recruiting a whole lot and then tired of being emotionally tossed to and fro by a bunch of teenagers. Just let me know how it all ends up and I hope the coaches are working their butts off trying to fill our holes. I'm not expecting much in the way of surprises as it's been a looonnnnggggg time since we've had much of a pleasant surprise in the last week leading up to NLOI day

Not surprising. BYU doesn't usually land high-profile recruits this late in the game. If you didn't want to come to BYU before, one weekend likely isn't going to change your mind.

If Dale were being recruited as a CB I'd be more disappointed. I wasn't holding out too much hope for Walton- he already has a mizzou offer. Monroe seems like he would have be decent but not great. Dilosa too. I thought we'd get Mama once he said he was going on a mission though. Seems kind of weird that he's going to UCLA this weekend. He lives right there so it isn't like he has to cancel a trip just to go to westwood.



I'm hoping we get Blackmon. That would make up for some of these misses. And I think he's better than Dilosa and Monroe.

Hopefully we will get our fair share of these types of recruits down the line. It is refreshing to see Bronco adjust his recruiting philosophy.

Hope Springs Eternal for some. Realistically, there is no basis for this particular hope.

I don't have any problem with the program chasing top recruits--even if it means most of them end up not coming. I think you have to show people you are serious about being a top program. You can't do that by ignoring the top recruits. Over time they just might get some of these guys and have some special seasons.

I have no issue with Chasing Mama or offering the other guys

I sure hope we did not hold scholarships open for these 1% or lower odds players and pass on some good 3 star players who actually might have come here. I also hope we did not burn so much recruiting face time with these guys that we got out recruited by not paying enough attention to players who would have come here.

Sucks, but it's going to take winning with what we've got until things snowball. It's kind of like playing Baseball Stars back in the day. You have to scrap together wins with no talent to get fans and money and then you can slowly upgrade each position. That's where we're at. We need to be winning on the big stage with what we've got and Bronco has been horrible at doing that. Recruits are watching.

Who else are they supposed to be recruiting? The only ones left are the 2* guys they could get without breaking a sweat. People make it sound like recruiting is super difficult. There are at a maximum 35-40 guys they are after. There are 10 coaches. They could almost be sitting on these guys porches 24/7.

Damien tweeting that UCLA trip on the 31st is off. Puts BYU into his top 3. Not sure if this means he will be here on for a visit on the 31st.

Honestly, he just dropped UCLA, which was his 3rd, so that puts BYU in 4th slot, honestly.

So I;d give it a Lloyd Christmas chance since Sark is willing to work with missions, and looks like UCLA perhaps was not as eager.

Don't disagree with you on him picking USC BUT Byu was all but out after he canceled his trip to Byu for UCLA. Byu being back in the top 3 after it was out is curious. Did he need a top 3? Couldn't he have a top 2 instead. If he was doing the whole respecting Byu thing(ala Jabari) why bring Byu back in to a top 3 and visit(reported) Why not respect them by keeping the door closed?

math error. Even if the coaches had no other duties whatsoever, 40/10 = less than 2 days per week. Add in travel, other duties, family, Church - time management matters.



As I said already, I have no issue with them offering these 5 as long as we did not neglect the other 35 in the process - like the ones rumored to be bailing like the RB this week.

Posted this in the recruiting section as well.

Reports state that he is NOT visiting Byu on the 31st. There is some conflicting statements out there. Brandon Gurney spoke with a byu commit that said Mama would be visiting. A scout.com guy who broke the news of mama not going to Ucla says he isn't taking any visits this week other than an un official to USC.

Some comments on twitter would lead you to believe that the UCLA coaches did something to upset damien. Byu's ONLY chance on this guy would be for USC coaches to do the same. It really seems like he is debating on moving far away for Alabama or staying home with USC.

TBS is now stating that Damien IS taking an official visit to Byu today. SOOOO Brandon Gurney good info. @GregBiggins from the scout network; BAD info.

Following this kids recruiting is kind of fun!!! Guy is bringing entertainment value without even signing!
