Agreed however, we will have to wait a while before we hear anything.

Really sucks that all these big matchups are always road games first, be nice to get big 10 team at home first...

Why do some people keep saying 2014 is such an easy or crap schedule? Because it's not a 2013 brutal schedule? It's moderately tough and perfect for BYU. Schedule mongers are just BCS fantasizers and BYU Ain't gonna be "there", possibly EVER AGAIN. Ever!

My prediction for the home games are an FCS team and Syracuse. But much can change between now and then. I doubt we play Southern Mississippi.

Agreed. I don't think 2013 was as tough as we thought it was going to be. And I don't think 2014 will be as easy as we think it will be either. I think 2014 is actually a pretty good schedule. I would like a few more "marquee" games at home, but I think it's going to be a fun year.

I heard a rumor that another game was going to change. That TH has been working the phone to get another marquee matchup.

Math Majors should be able to see how 2015 will play out.



BYU has given out too many 2fers. So road schedules fill quickly. But trying to bring in a big time opponent seemingly requires giving up 2 future road games and that future is already heavily mortgaged.



We will likely need to bring in a couple of rollover opponents who will give us 1 and done to fill this schedule without killing future years.

You can count that Southern Miss game in 2015 as cancelled. Look for Hawaii to join our schedule during 2015 and going forward. Depending on open dates, it could replace the Southern Miss game or could be a home game.

If the Southern Miss series has been cancelled, why hasn't any such announcement happened? Instead of cancelling the 2014 date it was said it was rescheduled to an future date. Is the series cancellation just assumed since the 2014 date went away?

The series was moved to a future, unknown date...but they really wanted out, so I doubt it comes up again for a few years. We won't go there first, which is why the 2015 game won't happen. Also, we can replace road games pretty easily.

In looking at the current scenario, Hawaii's schedule would have to change to make a 2015 date @ BYU happen as they already have 6 road games on their schedule (conference games @ Boise State, Nevada, New Mexico, UNLV and OOC games @ Ohio State, Wisconsin).

On BYU's side it would be fine as BYU's open dates are all open on Hawaii's side (9/19, conference weekend 10/2 Friday, 10/10).

If it was being targeted as a road game for BYU they could add it as Hawaii only has 5 home games scheduled and that would give BYU 13 games which also works since they play @ Hawaii. Or they could drop the 10/17 Southern Miss game and stay at 6 road games, 12 games total.

THE FLATS - Tulane, which was scheduled to host Georgia Tech the second Saturday of the 2014 football season, opted out of its four-game agreement with the Yellow Jackets.



Construction on the Green Wave's new $55 million facility, Yulman Stadium, may not be completed as expected by Sept. 6 when Tulane was scheduled to host Tech. After mutual consideration, the schools could not find a later date to move the game.



"We are extremely disappointed that Tulane has decided to cancel the four-game series with Georgia Tech, beginning with our game in New Orleans next fall," Yellow Jacket senior associate athletic director Ryan Bamford said. "The timing of Tulane's decision (after the ACC schedule was released earlier this week) is especially tough for us."



Tulane exercised the cancellation provision in the contract, which included a cancellation fee. The original contract was signed in 2007 for games to be played in the 2014, 2015, 2018 and 2019 seasons.



Georgia Tech, which began immediate discussions with potential replacements, expects to announce the opponent as early as next week...

The biggest challenge is going to be finding a date. It sounds like Ga Tech is looking for a road game for 2014, then probably a home game in 2015. BYU would love to host a game in 2014 but the biggest problem is the date. Tulane was scheduled for week 2 when BYU is @ Texas. BYU is open week 3 so if Tech can shuffle Georgia Southern from week 3 to week 5 that works (Georgia Southern has Savannah State week 2). Tech is also open on week 5 but BYU hosts Houston. Ga Tech has a late season bye scheduled for 11/22, and BYU hosts Savannah State so maybe BYU could move that to another week too. Though it isn't ideal as the late season bye helps be healthy for the ACC conference championship game.



If BYU took over the series and also wanted to play in 2015 @ Georgia Tech before the return series in 2018 (@ Georgia Tech) and 2019 (@ Provo), they would have to shuffle more games as they already have 6 road games. Options would be to scrap or postpone the @ Southern Miss game (as has been mentioned as a possibility) or get @ Hawaii on the schedule so they can take on 13 games.

Although I loved the 1996 season and it's 15 games, ultimately I guess we played 1 game too many. 14-0 works far better than 14-1. I cannot get enough BYU football and wish they played 52 games a year, but there is no upside and too much dowside in playing extra games



Another example of playing one too many came in 2001 when Staley ' s career was ended in the 9/11 terrorist attack rescheduled Mississippi State win followed by beating at the hands of Hawaii followed by a Bowl Loss iirc.



And that near loss at UH saved by the miracle timed dive over center to prevent a UH TD nearly cost us our NC.



And we are all delighted that the UH game came right after instead of right before Ty Detmer was awarded the Heisman.



I know. UH is horrible right now. But stuff happens. Especially in Hawaii.

Never mind. The Tulane-Georgia Tech series is back on.

Wyoming and Oregon State have the option of adding another non-conference game as they play in Hawaii but I don't know how likely that is. The schedule as it stands now is probably what we are going to get for 2014.
