U
urronerMost of you think I'm a goofball, well, I am. I admit that, but there is a reason. Because of certain experiences in my past which includes a nasty bout of depression, I don't handle stress all too well. If I get into a situation where the stress is bad and I can get out of the situation, I bail. If I can't, I just plug along doing the best I can.
I also do things to relieve the stress and since I ain't married, there are certain things I can't do to relieve it.
This is about the basketball team, so hang on.
For example, if I'm watching a BYU game and BYU is losing and it appears they will lose, I have to quit watching. I'm a HUGE BYU fan. I love BYU. I want to go back to BYU and take classes I want to take after I retire. I love going to BYU with my kids. Some of my mostest bestest memories ever are at BYU.
One night, in the mid-70's, I was in the physic's lab doing some experimenting with some portable lasers BYU had just received. They were awesome for the time. They were the size of a package of crackers. It was Friday night and my lab partner and I were trying to finish up an assignment quickly so we could get out and see if we still had some type of life. This was in the Eyring Science Building.
It was a dark, moonless night, and no, it wasn't stormy. It was a very peaceful night. My partner and I were looking out the window and saw all these adorable couples walking around campus, holding hands, falling in love. We decided that there was way too much peace going on and it needed to be changed.
We took one of the lasers and shined it out the window. The beam couldn't be seen, but the tiny red dot could be. This was before there were laser scopes for guns.
We led several couples and none of them noticed, but one couple finally did. They stopped dead in there tracks and the young lady pointed at the dot. The dot stopped and was motionless for several seconds, then it backed up and ran up the guy's leg. Talk about two scared people. They took off.
My partner and I had already finished the testing, so we just cleaned up and left a couple of minutes later, laughing and giggling at that little prank.
Next Monday, I walked into my physics class and the instructor told me that Bro. Hall, the head of the physics department wanted to see me and the same thing to my partner in crime.
After class, we went to see Bro. Hall and he wasn't very happy to see us. He told us that security had a call on Friday night about space aliens and red dots on the sidewalk which were attacking people. He reminded us that we were working with red light lasers at the time which made red dots and all this happened about the time we were in the lab.
We didn't have to say anything, the big grins on our faces told everything. Aliens from outer space....wow!!!!
He shook his head and informed us that if we ever did anything like that again, we would be disciplined since it caused a huge ruckus with campus security.
He scowled at us and said "And if we were ever to do it again, let me know, I want to be there also."
I love BYU.
Anyway the bowl game and then the following basketball game, I was only able to watch each of them for a short time. If I had been with somebody, I probably could have made it all the way through, but I wasn't.
But these past two basketball games were just awesome and they were played without Mika.
It was also awesome seeing the freshman Worthington make his first successful freethrows at BYU. If you would have watched what the players were doing after the game, you would have seen several players giving him a "bad" time. Grins all around.
One other thing, I wished we had a ROC when I was going to BYU. Being a part of that would have been a blast. Still, I was in the Incomparable Cougar Marching Band and I attended almost every game and was in a rowdy section. We even were told to not do certain cheers anymore also, like:
Chew tobacco,
Chew tobacco,
Chew tobacco, spit.
BYU, you are it.
