Floribama. The BCS's golden game.

I don't really know what to think of the alabama and florida matchup that is going to happen today. On one hand you've got to hand it to both teams. They've done exactly what they needed to do and have won every game they've played. One of those teams will still have a perfect record come Monday and will be playing in the BCS title game. The loser, well, they'll drop out of consideration and have to settle for a BCS game that doesn't involve a championship.



So here's a SOME of the potential problems this matchup causes for BCS proponents.



The first is: Why, if these two teams are the #1 and #2 teams in college football today, isn't this game considered the national championship this week? The computers are going to drop the loser a few notches and the winner will be in a bowl game against the new #2, playing an opponent who according to the numbers this week, is not #2. If Florida beats Alabama, isn't that the way it was supposed to happen and couldn't you possibly make the argument that Florida vs. Alabama in the title game still makes the most sense?



I read in an ESPN article today that Saban called this game a "BCS semifinal game" which sounds great and all, but who did you really have to beat to get to this "semifinal game"? What did you do to deserve to be in this "semifinal game" that was different from what Texas, or TCU or Cinncinati, or even BSU for that matter has accomplished. I'll just use your team from last year to make my point Saban, you got beat by Florida, who I felt should have beat you. That was fine and all, but then, according to your logic this year (that the top teams are playing today for the BCS title) you should have had no problem dismantling a team from Utah. We all know how that turned out.



Because of this last point, I'm going to have to call this an overrated game, it's been blown way out of proportion by ESPN and the media. While it should turn out to be a good game between two great teams, this game epitomizes what is wrong with the BCS system, namely that both of these teams are being given WAY too much credit. If there was a playoff Alabama and Florida would struggle against any of the other elite teams this year.

I completely agree with you. This game is all about the hype, and I think Florida or Bama would struggle with anyone in the top ten.



Both teams have shown flashes of being great, but so has every other team. The SEC is getting such media hype that they are now getting the benefit of the doubt more often than not....



This is why a playoff would be great. Maybe TCU is the best team. Who knows, Cincinnati might be the best, but how do you ever know unless you play?

I think that they're both good, solid teams. That being said, they get WAY too much love simply from being in the SEC and this game gets WAY overblown each year.

Like I thought, wasn't too impressed with the game. Both of these teams are definitely beatable.



TCU is going to get the shaft this year.
