I watch every game, but I can no longer watch a team of supposed D1 players who cannot shoot FT's. I bet any amount of money that I can outshoot every single one of these guys from the line left-handed. I no longer believe Rose is a coach who cares about discipline--there is clearly no punishment or coaching going on here.



This team has weaknesses sure, but would have AT LEAST 3 MORE WINS with decent free throw shooting.



This is not just sad. It is an embarrassment to the sport and athletics in general. BYU will not get another cent from me anytime soon.

Cougs are 1 for 11 from 3? :blush: And your opponent makes 13? Good luck winning that contest. How do you take #13 into OT and then lay two big eggs against Loyola-Marymount and now Pepperdine??? Cougs are a mess and have got to figure out how to start making 3's and playing D. And can someone please tell me why Nate Austin is a starter on this team? Man, he's brutal... I've got more basketball talent in my pinky than he does... the only thing he's good at is fouling out. This might not even be an NIT team this year. :blush: Rose has some serious challenges and coaching issues to figure out - we'll see just what he's made of over the next 3-4 games. It's looking like that OT loss to Oregon took a lot out of this club.

Nate Austin is our Rodman, and he's the best 4 we've got. Obviously that's a major hole. And that OT loss vs. Oregon should have this team up nights. Guess what else should but doesn't? Free Throws!!! We win this game too if we hit FT's. Unfortunately, it won't change.

Here is what is scary...we haven't yet played SD, SF, Pacific, St. Mary's and Gonzaga. Those teams are playing well and presently better than LMU and Pepperdine. The way BYU is defending and shooting the 3 poorly, missing costly FTs, and getting nil points production from Carlino, Austin and the bench, they will be lucky to keep from being a bottom dweller. How the mighty have fallen. When they had the big 3/4 scoring double figures (i.e. Carlino, Haws, KC, Mika), they could play against any team. Carlino is in a slump similar the latter end of last year regular season, and Mika/Austin are having trouble staying in the game due to foul trouble. The poor outside perimeter defense is giving teams wide open 3s and they are making superstars out of previously unsung heroes. This is a recipe for disaster on the road. Only way to get confidence is back at home where hopefully they re-group. If they don't win at home, this could be a very long season and one in which Rose may have to gut the team and bring on players who can bring skills that are sorely missing.

As if this isn't something that we already knew, Rose mentioned in the post-game comments that "perimeter defense as something that will be worked on extensively before the next game." How about getting in these guys heads to not quit when things get tough.

They just have no ability or confidence that they can get stops or prevent wide-open looks on defense.

There's a great chance this ends up being a last place team, looking at the schedule.

Some of you need to draw a line, mark both ends, examine that huge space in between the ends - it is called the middle. BYU will be somewhere in the middle almost every single season - right along with almost every other team in every other sport.

BYU landing in the middle of the WCC will likely get them in the middle of nothing (no NCAA, NIT invite). That is not what the BYU program aspires to do its fans. The ship can be righted...not sure what is the internal problem at present. However, Bronco was faced with a similar situation when BYU (a team in disarray) got pelted by USU. Jaime Hill was relieved of his job and Bronco took over. I don't believe the season is quite at that point, but if the losing continues, a shake-up is in order.

The script for beating BYU has been written and is being followed to a T by everyone now. Pack the middle on defense and dare our outside shooters to hit 3's.....they can't. Go right at Austin and Mika offensively early in the game and get them out on foul trouble. Teams are shooting really well against BYU because this team has no one that wants to play defense. Rose wanted to play man defense a bunch this year but has resorted back to the zone because no one wants to play defense at all. The sad thing is, they don't play zone either so teams have no trouble beating any defense we try to throw at them. The team played hard on both ends of the floor against Oregon and lost and it seems in the last 2 games, they have not played hard on either end of the floor. Mark Durrant said it perfectly in the Loyola game "It is easy to hit shots when you are not being guarded."

Yup, guys like myself would have been all-americans if all it took was knocking down open jump shots. I'll knock about every shot down short of the half court line (in practice).

I don't think BYU finishes last. There's enough talent and coaching to right this ship. BYU certainly won't finish first but I'll still enjoy the rest of the year. Basketball like we've seen the last 2 games gets me far more worked up than football ever does.
