Another loss at the foul line

Hats off to the effort tonight, much better than against utah. This is the second loss this year against a top 25 team that would have been a victory if BYU just hits their foul shots. Very frustrating.

KC will never get better at shooting. Fact. It's time for him to swallow his pride and shoot granny style.



I am not joking either. He is costing us games late. Heck, he cost us in Jimmer's last game too. This is unacceptable.



We are literally a top 15 team with these guys shooting 75% FT's. Instead we always fall short.

KC wasn't the only one missing free throws. Nate Austin went 1-4 today, I saw Mika miss free throws. Everyone seems to freaking miss free throws. BYU should be an 80% free throw shooting team every year and they are shooting around 50% right now. Free throws, win/lose games and BYU is losing them right now.

I realize that, but KC is our best player and gets the most chances especially late. Him shooting 1/2 every freaking time kills our team. Mika is also Shaq as I mentioned. Nobody else gets there often enough to make a difference.



Those 2 should absolutely consider shooting granny style. They suck at the line.

It's not just FTs though.

Free throws matter.



So do 7-0 runs at the end of regulation. We need a defensive stopper.

Sure but every team has it's general weaknesses. Our specific weakness is FT's and there's no debate about it. We can't extend leads like a truly great team does. We don't turn 8 point leads into 10 or late 5 point leads into 7. We get 1 or 0 at the line every time almost w/o exception. Those point differences are huge in college ball.



Why have we lost huge leads in every loss this season (except for @ UofU)? Because we can't extend leads and put teams in large enough deficits to make our other weaknesses less relevant.

BYU had a better FG percentage, a better 3pt percentage, and out rebounded Oregon and lost. When you win every statistical category and lose, it is because you blew the game at the line. BYU shoots 75-80% at the line tonight and we win easily. I don't know what the answer is, Dave Rose has mentioned he works on free throw shooting but whatever they are doing it isn't working.

Great point!

But two other very big reasons:

Clock management and Matty Fricken hair trigger, sailor after a long float, Carlino. Can't control himself.



Oh, and the refs. No way O doesn't foul out somebody or two.

We missed 14 FT's. You're going to miss FT's, no question. But I believe there is so much momentum built up from hitting 2 of 2. Oregon did a great job of turning the momentum late for this very reason. On the road, you just have to nail both late.



Granny time, boys.

BYU's biggest liabilities are not in defense. They are at the free throw line.

Never has a line been quite so ... foul.

"Filthy, filthy foul." Yes, I admit, FT are a bigger liability than even Carlino.

Free throws are to Rose what Red Zone is to Anae/Bronco. Game killers.
