Do we do better in the NIT this year?

I think that's the only question remaining this season is whether or not BYU will do better this season in the NIT or not.



I thought this team was better than last years early on, but there seems to be a lot more glaring weaknesses on this team.

I don't think we're yet penciled in for the NIT. A 19 RPI and a top 15 SOS = tournament bound if we win 20+ games... might be a terrible seed (should be a terrible seed unless we turn it on) and we might play ourselves out of the tourney if we play like we did yesterday.. but it's not time to panic yet....... yet

It doesn't make any sense that this team is as bad as last year's, but this looks very much like part 2. Last season we started what 3 walk-ons and this year everyone is schollie?

Last years team wasn't bad. We had an NBA forward playing out of position at center and Brock Zylstra played too darn much, but it was a good team that darn near won the NIT.



311 or so teams in D1 hoops and we were a top 50 team last year... not terrible.



This year we get much younger and our non con schedule is much tougher. (much tougher) we will have to do quite well in conference but we're not a bad team ... a 19 RPI with a top 20 SOS and wins over Texas and Stanford away from the MC is not terrible... we're not great either (I believed as much before the season even started) but I love the future and enjoy this team (for the most part.)

Totally from a RPI point of view, you always hope that the team you lose to will continue to be as brilliant of a team as they were when they whooped ya, but my biggest %itch about Puketah and USU sometimes is that they expend so much energy and whip our backsides and then they tank. Geez, if you can beat a better team, then do it because you are better and not that you can only seem to focus on one game.



It Puketah goes on to have a successful BB season, then RPI, we're fine. I'm just sick of these BYU pansies that can't get their focus under control when we play Puketah. They're embarassing and frustrating for us BYU fans that have to live or work in SLC.

I think we can make the NCAAs. The WCC looks solid this tag and should get at least two teams. I think we can challenge Gonzaga for the league title.I think our non-conference schedule has really prepared us for the rest of the season.

I hope you are right Spiff. I don't see this team competing with GU. This nonconf schedule has been as tough as the Fball schedule. But I'm not sure Rosé is adjusting or can adjust/learn or change from the losses. This zebra has its stripes this deep into the season. Ain't much changin.

I am still hopeful we go dancing this season. We've played a tough schedule so far. What we'll need to do though is put together a dominant WCC run. Can't drop any head scratchers.



Losing Utah was ahead scratcher. Losing to top 25 teams weren't.

Fair enough. Same weaknesses then is perhaps a better way of putting it. We are a good team, but we just can't D up vs other good to great teams and we don't have the firepower and FT shooting to get comeback victories imo.

Answer: No. Not with two extremely high-usage shooters who spend months trying to shoot out of slumps, including in games when down by 5 or less with under a minute to go.



Off-topic, but is anyone else concerned that Haws' slump (which could be entering it's 11th month now) is less a slump than a status-quo and that maybe his hot post-mission start was just a baseline-obscuring hot-streak?

Yes' bc remember when the coach said in a post game interview when Haws went off in the second half, "this was angry Tyler" or words to that effect? Just don't see that level of agression on a consistent basis. And quite Frank Bartley, Tyler doesn't have the strength/size he may need to perform high level all season long. Effects of GFGH?

I've been there since the getgo. The mission legs thing is a stupid excuse. Haws has always been and always will be a slow moving, great spot up shooter who is decent at finishing at the rim. He is basically a smaller version of Cummard. Neither will ever make it in the NBA, but they can score like crazy in some college games.

I don't see Haws playing in the NBA.



I think the biggest difference in his game is teams know how to defend him. He's a spot up shooter, just make sure he doesn't get to his spot.
