BYU's Talent

Last night at work I watched the Texas A&M game from 96. Holy Cow! If BYU had that much talent during any of the Bronco years, we would cream people like Florida State has this year. The defense was absolutely loaded. It was actually frustrating for me to watch their undisciplined read and react defense. Bronco has never had anything close to the talent that 96 team had on defense. Wouldn't it be nice to have 2 TE's like Mili and Lewis this year alongside our current crop of Wide recievers? Oh and the Oline that year was every bit as young as ours was this year and yet Sark had all day to throw behind them for much of the game.

I watched the Kansas State game a couple of weeks ago and thought the same thing, especially about the Oline.

I remember the hype before the T A&M game was that their defense with its "wrecking crew" Dline was going to mutilate our young and inexperienced Oline. French flat out knew how to get an Oline ready to play. Too bad we don't have someone like him to coach our oline now. I had high hopes for 2J but either we just simply didn't have the talent this year or he wasn't able to get them ready, I don't know which is the case.

One thing that helped the 96 team was a lack of injuries. Go watch the aTm game and see who's playing. Then go watch the Kansas State game and see who's playing. It's the same guys.

Injuries can kill a season. I'm not saying we would have beaten the teams we lost to with the injuries, but our team has had to make a lot of adjustments on the fly to cover for injuries.

True but our starting defense this year compared to the players on the starting defense in 96 isn't even close in talent level. The 96 team put just about that entire defensive line into the NFL and the db's, while not nfl talent, are head and shoulders better than anything we have had before or since. I think this years safeties are probably better and our linebackers are comparable but everything else isn't close.

Time to name names and refresh some memories. Put an * by the ones that played in the NFL. That team was loaded on both sides of the ball.

They lost 1 game. But they might be the best BYU Football Team - ever. The 1984 schedule pales in comparison to who the 1986 team faced.

Agreed. The speed of the team has definitely ramped up, but toughness wise '96 wins by a landslide. That team could've matched Wisconsin's Oline.

Why don't you do it cougar needs a bib to eat. If you are such a cougarfan, you should be able to do a google search and see who was on the team and who made it to the NFL.

Can't do all your work for you. It was your post and your claim. Just tried to lend a little support to your claim.

Now - butterball - spattered all over the bib I need when I eat - or butterball turkey - if you do not want people guessing what frdbtr means - spell it out. Got the Ford hint. Trying to show recognition of that.

In case you missed my earlier true confessions -

I am the last living - and possibly only ever living - person that liked the Bib Uniforms. Mystery revealed.
