Multiple penalties this late in the season?!?!

We have seven penalties ALREADY and there's just under seven minutes into the SECOND QUARTER!



We can't blame our coaches.



Our offensive line still allows intruders through their guards.



I feel bad for KVN playing one of his last college games in his home team.

Totally undisciplined play today.



Thankfully we were good enough to overcome it. But that shouldn't happen.

BYU made a 4-8 MWC team look tougher than Texas today.

I think it might be more accurate today that thankfully UNR was bad enough to not take advantage of it.....

Exactly, we were lucky this hangover didn't happen against a better team or we would be 7-5 right now. Bronco said he was furious at half time. Let the team know that nothing was going to come easy for them and they needed to wake up. It worked.

Yes and San Jose State who killed Fresno State today after losing to Nevada badly last week made them look like NC contenders.



For some unclear reason, Nevada was rising up a bit the past two weeks.

It's rather obvious that Mendenhall and his coaching staff don't motivate their players and all this talk about executing at a higher level and playing sound, disciplined football with abeyance to the fundamentals has become a joke, totally meaningless and nothing but empty rhetoric when it does not show on the field. As long as Bronco, Anae and even Tom Holmoe remain at the helm of the football program, nothing is going to change... it will be 6-8 win seasons and meaningless bowl after meaningless bowl and just enough success to keep all their jobs. Oh well, the program is what it is.

Actually, although a 6 win season is a real possibility, so is a 10 win season. 6 will not happen often. Neither will 10. Both are equally likely.



U, on the other hand - expect 4-8 win seasons. And yes, SOS is a big part of the discrepancy.

Now back on topic. Yesterday was a unique game. Two, count them, two holding penalties on d line. Maybe you see it called once a decade. Two in yesterday's game. Two personal fouls on KVN. Does that make two total for his career? The refs were out of control and as usual were really zoned in on BYU. Of course our poor db play made it easier for them but it got to the point of being rediculous. And it was in no ways indicative of the program. Of course even if Andy Reid were the HC with Holmgren as the OC and Dwayne Walker as the DC and haters would still say we have a weak coaching staff and will never win more than 8 games a year. Same old stuff.

I agree with your assessment of the Utes - they are going to continue to struggle in the PAC 12 because they are always going to lose the recruiting battle to every other school in the conference (except for perhaps Wazzu and Colorado) and find it hard to compete year to year as evidenced by their last 2 seasons with no bowl. USC gets 12 scholarships back next season too and so the competition for the best athletes is going to get even tougher for schools like Utah, WSU and Colorado. The Utes will be lucky to go bowling as long as they are in the PAC 12, period.



And with the Cougs, as long as they remain independent, they will always lose at least 3-4 games because they ain't in the dumpy MWC anymore and Mendenhall, Anae and Holmoe are impediments to the football program being anything more than a meaningless bowl game participant year in and year out. The football team won 8 games this year in spite of Bronco and Anae's lackluster coaching. If BYU had Whit and Erickson calling the shots in Provo, the Y is probably sitting at at least 10 wins and looking at a top 15 ranking with a decent bowl game. But they're at 8-4 (and could have easily been 6-6 given what happened in the Houston and Nevada games). The Cougs are actually a mere 8 points from being 6-6 - that's where this program is with Bronco, Anae and Holmoe in independence.

And yet Whitt and Ericson can't even beat WSU and nearly lost to Colorado. Int saved the day - ball tossed into the stands - amidst all the 5-7 excitement.



And - How many points was BYU away from being 10-2. Not many.

2 plays from 10 -2. Jamal catches the last pass we beat Va. An extra TD vs :utard: and we win that one. We squandered several blue zone opportunities that game.
