Thoughts on Wichita State tonight?

Solid win last night. I think we can win tonight, but will need to be on our A game. I hope Haws gets out to a quicker start this game to keep us in it early, if we can hang around I think we have a shot.

It would be the biggest non-con win in the last 20+ years... Hope we play our best game ever. However, I think we lose by 15.



Texas is not that good and Texas struggled to get to 4-0 against some very average opponents. We struggled to beat Texas... I'm not so sure the ship is righted.



Wichita State is a great litmus test win or lose of where we are this year.

I could see that. Texas was a big win by name, they did not make the tournament last year, but good to have a brand name win even if down.

Texas not a good team. I swear I looked up and confirmed twice that they were favored by 7-7.5 points. Yes. They had a losing record last year. Yes. They were picked 8th in Big 12 this year.



Texas is a good, but not great team who's schedule in conference will be tough enough to make them look mediocre. I think Texas will take down DePaul.



Witchita State appears to be a great team. I would guess that they will be favored over BYU - another good but not great team - by double digits.

Re: Texas, it is all perception. Wichita is ranked #12, if they beat UNC or UCLA it would considered a mild upset despite being ranked higher.

Looking at the stats, they seem to be a very similar team to BYU. Similar rebounding, steals, blocks, free throws, three pointers, shooting percentages. They don't have any real tall players either. Maybe somewhat similar to Iowa St.



Should be a good matchup.

Texas was bigger and stronger and it showed last night.



I suspect we'll match up better against Wichita tonight.



My concern is how tired out guys will be coming off a tough game last night. Course Witchita will have the same issue.

Similarly, I hope MC doesn't continue to disappear in the last ten minutes. But, if they game plan that way so beit.

I think with less beefy post players, BYU will be better able to compete. KC will be better able to go to the hole and dish. The Tx boys took up ALOT of space.

Their pace is slower than BYU typically. It will be interesting to see if they try to run with us or try to slow it down and force us to play half-court game.



IDK if we can dictate tempo. WS takes this one in their backyard.

It would definitely be an upset, but I'm predicting a BYU win. This year our guys have attitude, a will to win and something to prove. I think they'll want it bad enough to keep it close and win in the end (if they can make free throws - otherwise, Wichita St wins).

I think a lot of this depends on Haws. When he's on we're nearly unstoppable, but if he gets tired I don't think we have the pieces in place YET to over come a very good team.

Wouldn't Louisville in 2007 (#6) be our best win in the last 20 years?



I hope they play well. BYU basketball is exciting. I wanted a win against texas, but I am just glad to see good coaching and the team compete.

My take on Texas is due to watching every game they've played on the Longhorn network.



They not only struggled to put away every one of their opponents but had nearly double digit deficits in every game they played. Many on this board have wondered who we have that can create for themselves.... imagine if you're Texas.. we at least have Carlino, Collinsworth, and Haws... they have no one that can simply dial it up and score... yet they could have won that game and really didn't have trouble scoring as much as I had expected. They are hyper athletic and apparently we are not, and maybe we just got Texas best overall game, but yesterday was sloppy and scary (particularly defensively and on the boards, but also with turnovers) and it doesn't bode well for tonight.



It was bizzarro to watch Cameron Ridley get off against us when he had been a non factor in some of the other games. (Texas had 9 blocked shots against us.. 6 by Ridley who had not scored in double figures til last night (and had only scored 10 or more twice all of last season) and struggled to get up and down the court against other opponents that aren't known for running like us)... Granted Mika did get some hustle points from running the court, but Ridley should have been on life support by the middle of the 2nd half.



We shot lights out 10-12 from 3... which is unheard of and is also what it takes for an average team to beat a great team. We are not average (better than that), they are not great and it took every one of those 3s... This was not a good game by us. We unneccesarily got in scary foul trouble, we gave up just as many lanes and rebounds as we did to ISU (difference Texas isn't as good, but it also wasn't at home)



As for the point spread... I would be shocked if BYU had been a 7 point dog..(I don't have many LDS friends in Kansas City and Big 12 country and honestly most of them don't seem to enjoy football without having money on the games..I've met some of their bookies... nice people.) I'm personally not a gambler for anything that matters, but had I seen that spread I would have been tempted to fly to Vegas and bet on BYU, because I expected a 7-10 point win by the Cougs. Just the same, were I a Vegas/Reno resident, I would have been willing to bet $5k on Notre Dame when I saw that BYU was a 1 pt favorite.. I personally think that was easy money.. (what were you thinking Vegas? Haven't seen the Cougs on the road?)



I would love for WSU to come down to the ground (they have been known to drop a couple head scratchers in the MVC

but I think after the final four, they're seasoned, confident, and smarter than last year, so I don't hold out too much hope... (except that WSU was a little manic last year). It would be an early Christmas if we won.. (give me a bowl win and to win this tourney and I will even give back the stocking stuffers to Santa.. I would be good for 2013)

Last night resembled a school yard pickup game, but with refs.



I like pushing the ball but too many times we got down the court with no shot strategy or opportunity, trying to force the ball over defenders or make pass through traffic. It was crazy at times.



Texas played right into our tempo and has the horses to do so. I liked the shifts on defense Rose made. Kept us in the game.



I don't think we see the same from WSU that we saw from Texas.

Our interior D is still soft, which I had hoped would change with Mika in there. Our perimeter D looks okay, but we need a shut down defender to play more ala Halford (dare I?) or Winder.
