Why Does The Red Zone Offense Struggle?

This is not a thread to bash Anae or any play calling, but rather a serious discussion on the ineptness of the offense in the red zone. Is it just a natural result of the spread option and GFGH? No alternative to go power football when needed? Complete inability of O-Line to make it happen? Interested to hear some thoughtful insight.

Anae doesn't have Max Hall audibling out of all of his playcalls anymore.

I agree, this offensive line, while it has improved this year, is HORRIBLE. Tommy Reese is an average at best QB and yet his offensive line gives him enough time to eat a ham sandwich back there. Our oline plays step out of the way and let the guys through type of blocking. Jwilliams had guys in his face as soon as he touched the ball all game long.

This and the OL.

I put it more on the OC more than the OL. Why?? Because the GFGH offense tires out the OL the longer they are on the field. The OC should know that the OL is gassed after running down the field. The play call on the quick slant to Cody on 2nd and goal was IMO the right call. Minimum energy need by OL as the play is a quick drop and throw. I would have gone back to it on 3rd down OR down a completly different formation with JD in the slot and 2 TE's. We play against ourselves when we are asking more out of our OL than they can give at that point.

Because Hill isn't accurate nor efficient in blue zone. In fact, he's been inaccurate and inefficient the majority of the year. He's still very inconsistent. But it's his first year starting and I think he can figure consistency out.



Once he figures out how to consistently be efficient the blue zone, BYU will be extremely difficult to defend and beat.
