Guys, Anae is just not good.

Multiple QB rollouts when the linebackers are spying the flats, running up the gut multiple times when there is no space to run, and poor 4th down decisions.

He's just not good. He's barely average.

The one play call I have been shouting about for the last 8 weeks now (WR screen) gets us 15 yards, but of course we never go back to him. (Credit him for actually doing one, finally.)

Also, I hate the fake option to Williams and then Hill immediately follows him play (we have run it 3 times this half). It does nothing. The defense is already rolling over to JW to tackle, and JW can't block someone in motion to save his life. That play should be run to Lasike, and only in short yardage situations. 2 times that play was run without Lasike, and in long yard situations.

It's not going to get any better with him calling the plays. Anae reached his ceiling 5 years ago, and constantly changing gimmicky offenses isn't going to change the fact that he doesn't know how to gameplan away from his weaknesses, and what the defense is giving him.

The short Doman era makes Anae look good but I've been convinced for years now that we won't get to an undefeated season with him as OC. 10-3 or 11-2, yes. But not 13-0.

I disagree. You can't call perfect plays every time.

Give Anae a decent O-line and let's see what happens.

BYU isn't winning the battle of either line. That doesn't bode well--and that is hard to pin on your OC who has been here a grand total of what 1 year?

Easy to knock Anae today, but he's turned the offense around this year. Next year look out.

It has been easy to knock him all year. It was easy to knock him the last time he was here. He isn't a first time OC, and he isn't a first year coach here at byu.

He was brought in here to win now, and he isn't. He was a bad hire. We can just add notre dame 2013 to the list of teams we won't make a comeback against. If I can gameplan against him, you better believe that people that are getting paid to do it can too. The only thing that *might* save him is that Taysom Hill has the heart of a champion. But as I type this in the 3rd quarter, I have every confidence we won't win. Even though we just crossed into the red zone. I've seen this movie before. It doesnt end well for byu.

It doesn't help the play calling when Taysom is making horrible decisions/reads as well.........Hill is locking his eyes on his receivers and the defense is reading him the entire time.

It starts at the top guys. Bronco has developed a soft culture at BYU. The team is mentally weak, undisciplined, and scared of big environments. We all knew this game was over in the 2nd quarter because Bronco teams don't come back from deficits ever. Close losses are okay because we fought hard, ala Rudy, and that's good enough for our exposure.

We'll never get there with Bronco and this season is busted with this loss.

Offense is better than it was last season, no question. That doesn't change the fact, though, Anae is an average OC at best.

His play calling is atrocious.

BYU goes no where other than Kraft Hunger Bowls with him as OC.

anae just doesn't adjust. i know he is limited by his offensive line being unbelievably bad, but when teams catch on you got to adjust.

Look at BYU's offensive performance while anae has been at BYU (minus the HEaps frosh year). Really? So those 7 paid coaches who got lit up by Anae and the offense this year are just lazy? And Taysom has shown he is as much a liability as he is a "savior" to Anae. He's still got a LOT to learn. remember Riley had the heart of a champion as well, didn't mean he won games necessarily though, and he didn't save Doman.

Houston game doesn't count as a comeback I guess?

Bronco's teams have made comebacks and I surprised you are saying he can't.

I agree that it starts at the top. Bronco's has horrible clock management and has been very hands off with the offense. His tough hard nosed coaching has rubbed of on the defense but the Offense has been left to be ran by the OC. Anae's biggest flaw in my book is his refusal to adjust.( like you mention blue) He is all about the my will vs you/ power game stuff. The problem is that it doesn't match up to our personel especially against bigger and better teams. We can roll over the easier smaller teams but we go up against the ND and the UW's and we look flat footed. The run plays in the red zone are the biggest examples of this. The point is to score, not prove you can run up the middle. By the time we get to the redzone out OL is gassed.

The only time riley nelson and taysom hill should be mentioned in the same sentence is "Bronco picked Riley Nelson over Taysom Hill."

Just because Doman didn't have a clue, and Anae has a little more of a clue, it doesnt make him a good coach. Check his stats on teams over .500, and then consider all the nfl talent he had on the offense.

Anae is average. We all know this but like to pretend he's better as it helps us sleep at night. Making excuses is an easier pill to swallow.

Hey I think Hill is 10x the QB, but it was you who mentioned "heart" and you can't argue that Riley had more. Actually riley gave his team a better shot at beating ND last year against a better defense, IMO.

So what coaches have these really good records vs teams with winning records blue? That's a tough sell for me.

BYU has beat the following +.500 teams THIS YEAR

Texas

MTSU

USU

GT

Houston

BSU

Could/should also include UVA, Utah and ND with better play calling. That is the point.

It amazes me how difficult it is for some fans to realize that some of the teams BYU played this year were better than BYU at that point in time.

Taysom Hill has much to learn. He probably will learn.

I would challenge Blue is Better, to list the 25 or 30 teams who played a schedule rated as tougher than ours and then list the ones that do better than 8-4. Then circle which of those coaches would want to come to Provo.

BYU is generally a Top 35 or 40 team. BYU is and generally has never been more than that.

That is how our recruiting ranks as well. That is who we are.

Enough of bemoaning all of the NFL talent we had. With rare exception, we have had either no NFL talent, or marginal role player NFL talent. Utah has had more NFL talent and higher rated recruiting classes. They lost to Leach and WSU this year. We beat WSU last time we played. Do you want 6-5 Leach? Which Utah OC do you want? Chow, A Rod, Ericson, ---

Notre Dame and Wisconsin are better than BYU.

I think the nature of complaints that fans do have with our program and the fact that we're nowhere close to satisfied with a four-loss season vs a top-25 schedule shows that our football program is, has been, and will continue to be in a good place.

I'm not calling for Anae's head. I think for the most part he has done fine with what this offense is this year. I think the play calling looks a lot better if the Oline blocks better this year. All of our losses, we were DOMINATED by the other teams defensive line and it isn't even close. All of our wins, our Oline looked decent enough to get it done or we needed superhuman efforts by Taysom hill to get it done. Having said that, this is the first loss I am completely disapointed in as far as coaching and it has nothing to do with play calling. This team looked uninspired and disinterested. It was probably weather related but that is NOT an excuse. I can live with losing but I can't stand to watch a team I care about look uninterested in putting up a fight. It was on both the offense and defense and I hope that Bronco lets the team know that kind of effort is not acceptable. I have heard that Anae is a hard nosed coach so I hope the offense gets worked this week too. If we come out looking like that against Nevada, we lose that one too and I would bet the negativity on this site will be a lot worse if we lose to a bad team like Nevada.
