Colorado Mesa comes in from Grand Junction, Colorado.



They are not a very good team. This should be a blowout, even if Tyler Haws sits again. Biggest question is whether we can continue our 100+ point streak.

Unless GJ can slow them down with a deliberate, full use of the clock offense, this will be another off to the races game. MSM tried to run with BYU, trade baskets and paid the price. I believe that GJ will be more deliberate but BYU will force the pace with pressure on the inside and forcing team to take outside shots, getting long rebounds and triggering the fast break. BYU's goal is to continue to score 100 pts/game (that is their mindset), and I believe they will do it again.

I hope they can get their free throws out of the 60s. The 80s would be great but at least get past 70%.

This game won't be as close as last night. But I do wonder about the back-to-back aspect. Could have some tired legs out there. Especially for Collinsworth - just back from a mission - and the young freshmen like Mika & Worthington.

With Haws out - even fewer legs to share the load. Opportunity to measure our reserves.

I'm hopeful that as we get farther into the meaningful games this season we'll promote and utilize this feature more.

I see tired legs so far tonight. The shots aren't dropping for anyone. CMU is doing a good job of getting back on D to their credit.

In basketball, is really tough to make a team play up tempo of they don't want to.

I saw a lot of our guys (named Carlino) running into trouble then looking for an outlet when they were in the air or stuck between three opponents. Was there much of that last night? Also of note it seemed as if Halford was the only player who knew defensive assignments. He was constantly having to point teammates to where they were supposed to be.

Halford impressed. I believe Craig O was calling for more PT for Halford. Quick. Natural, smooth stroke. Aggressive. Decent ball handling. Creates.



Announcers said he "looks like an accountant". As an Accounting Minor, I was thinking he looked more like a librarian or math major.

Mesa packed it in and begged our guys to shoot outside and they stunk... same game different night and if even 30% of those shots go in and we win by 40+.. Tired legs and bad luck with the 3s. 5%? wow 1/21... this should be a reminder for next weekend. In game 2, we might want to consider a little more inside game to our bigs and a little less perimeter shooting (particularly from Bartley, Winder, and KC... these guys have no business shooting unless they're completely wide open)



Our guys seemed upset that they didn't get to run, got bored at times and I'm glad. They needed a bad game for a wake up call before the next week that really really matters.



No one played great tonight... Coaches I'm sure aren't pleased, but also happy that they have teaching moments, particularly how to handle back to back game... the next ones are coming on the road...



Glad Tyler will be back... we need him.

Craig - re nobody played great tonight. Mostly true, but I grade that vs what I expect out of each player.



Haws is the brightest star. I expect 25 or more out of him vs this type of opponent plus a few rebounds, assists, and steals. He was injured and on the bench.



Carlino. I expect nearly the same production as Haws from Carlino. A few less points. More assists. Carlino was off too often. Too many long-distance 3s. A little out of control at times. Good enough to beat teams like the last two or Weber State.



Collinsworth. I expect a double double or a filled stat sheet and decent defense. I think we got that from KC.



Austin. I expect 10 points. 7-10 rebounds. A couple of blocks or altered shots. A little foul trouble. Decent defense. I think we got that from Austin.



Mika. I expect similar to Austin. A few more points. We did not get this until very late when he got it going.



Winder, Halford, etc. IDK what to expect yet. But we keep getting way more than we have gotten out of the bench in years.



They all sucked at 3-point shooting. I think KC was the one who finally sank one.

I think part of the reason we didn't get Mika going is we didn't pass to him often enough in the beginning and he was in foul trouble a lot of the game. After tonights game I don't see how we couldn't use Bronson on our team this year. Worthington wasn't great at all and has a lot of work to do



Another conerning matter was that Wrubell asked Rose if he was optimistic about Haws and Rose replied "Worried." That probably means he's out for the Iowa State game. Bad time for an injury

Maybe one of the doctors on CC can comment about the prognosis for that type of injury - although it may vary widely depending on severity.



Collinsworth went off in extreme pain - hip injury. He claims he is ok, but so would Riley Nelson.
