Payton Dastrup to BYU

Tweets are reporting that Payton Dastrup has de-committed from Ohio state and is signing with BYU. I don't know much about the guy but they say he is a 4 star recruit so I am assuming he is good.

Including a tweet from Gurney and Wrubbel. Sounds like he's Provo-bound.

What's funny is Patrick Kinihan is making cracks that no one outside of lone peak will commit to BYU because we play in "high school gyms". And yet, we just stole someone from Ohio State. :)

Wow, he just announced nationally about choosing OSU last Thursday, didn't he? Or was it two weeks ago? I get so mixed up...either way, it was very recent; I wonder what happened.

He already signed his loi. dastrup said that since he picked osu, he just didn't feel like he was being true to himself and that as growing up a huge byu fan he knew that was the place best for him. sounds like he just knew it was the best match for him and it just cemented after he made his decision somewhere else that this was the case.

That was quick. Very quick. Great timing. Would have been awkward to wait and do that post mission.



That Stanford game had to have helped sway him. Big win. ESPN. Announcers gushing over Carlino, Haws, and KC. Room for him and Mika. More supporting cast coming this way. Run and score. Probably looked fun.

That's awesome news........Does Rose talk him into playing a year before going on his mission?? He could replace Sharp for Sharp's senior year........sad but might be needed

Note to all prospects - especially BIGS - if you have NBA Talent, you will get to the NBA playing at BYU. If you do not have it - playing at Duke, etc., gets you the bench and wastes your college experience.

Sounds like he's going directly on his mission so he'll come back with Haws and Emery, Mika comes back a year later if my math is right. BYU basketball's future is looking very very good right now. If we can just keep our head coach from dying of cancer between now and then, we're going to have a great run.

If he wants to serve - just as well get er done now. Either way is fine.

This kid is still in high school. He and Mika likely come back the same season. 2016/2017. Seems like forever. One of the Lone Peak guards is on his mission now. One is still in high school.



So we should see Emery in 2015/2016 joined by Mika, Dastrup, and Haws a year later. Collinsworth and Emery in 2015, but Collinsworth gone before the other three. Carlino and Tyler Haws long gone.



So between then and now????

Happy to hear. How does this effect our recruiting class ranking? Should be a very high ranking.

The ESPN exposure that BYU received in the game with Stanford caught many a scout's eye for talent. If BYU can continue to be invited to pre-season tourneys or big name drawys with ESPN exposure, there will be plenty of opportunity for scouts to observe the talents of the players.

BYU coaches are good enough to get a good player into the NBA. Jimmer got in. Results confirm that BYU got him placed at least as high in the draft as he deserved.



Jabari Parker could be playing just about anywhere and have scouts drooling.

My bad. KC. Fixed it. CC probably still has eligibility - just doesn't have healthy knees.
