The bye week was not friendly for Byu.

Texas ahead of Byu on the ESPN.com Power ranking, the USA Today and the AP poll.

Houston is ranked ahead of us in the USA Today poll. Huh?

For me the Texas one hurts the worst. We haven't lost since that game( 1 more in a row then them) and we blew them out.

Why the disrespect from the voters? Texas beating Oklahoma carries more weight then a loss to Byu :skeptic: Shouldn't Texas being on a win streak help Byu...

Houston has no right ever being ahead of the Cougars as long as we keep winning. Byu beating Boise is a better win than Houston over Rutgers.

Im telling you no conference affiliation hurts the Cougars! Theres no coachs or media voting on the "party lines". BYU has no support from 10-12 other teams like they would if they were in a conference. Argue all you want about the loss to Virginia and Utah as being the reasons BYU isn't ranked but the fact that Houstons ranked ahead of is IMO is proof that not being in a conference is hurting more than the two loses.

And yet Utah and Virginia are inexplicably ranked behind BYU.

If Texas wins out and BYU wins out Texas will have better wins than BYU (and better losses) and be ranked ahead of BYU. You have a better argument with Houston (though they still have UCF and Louiville) but still not a good one - we barely beat them by a point and if that is their only loss they will surely be ranked ahead of BYU.

I don't think this plays into it as much. Head to head game then SOS and W's and L's after.

Is Houston losing to Byu then beating Rutgers and S. Florida more impressive then Byu beating Houston and beating Boise? I say no. Byu should stay ahead. If Houston beat a top 20 team then maybe. Texas getting blown out of the water by Byu and being ahead of Byu WITHOUT Byu losing once. Byu played good teams since.

Im with a1247, with these polls in question(voters being coaches and homer media) being without a conference plays a big roll. Byu probably gets the coaches they beat and that's it(6 coaches) Conferences get upwards of 12 voting along conf. lines.

stgeorgefan you are forgetting that BYU lost to Utah AFTER the Texas win. And Texas lost the week after the BYU game.

That is college football, that is why the only way to handle things is on the field through a playoff. ND beat Arizona State and Michigan State, they are ranked behind both.

ASU beat Wisconsin and is ranked below them......oh wait, Wisconsin should have really won if not for the officials. :)

If we have the same record as Texas at the end of the season and are ranked below them, then yes, it would be unjust and a reflection of Texas's image and power. I'm not going to get too excited until we get past Wisconsin and ND. If we don't beat both teams than it's really not going to matter.

I agree also with the others because it's a proven truth that coaches tend to vote teams in their conference higher despite what they really believe because it is advantageous to them. In polls where fans vote I often vote more than once because it's the nature of the beast, so can I point fingers at those coaches when they likewise influence these beauty contests that are the polls?

I'm not so sure about this conference affiliation explanation. Then why isn't Wisc ranked higher? Everybody knows they got hosed by pac10 refs.

And why is ND ranked where they are?

No conference affiliation may account for some of the explanation, but minor, and certainly not "proof."

What looks worse. Texas loss to BYU? Or BYus loss to UVA? It's pretty simple really. Loss to Utah would be more forgivable, if no loss to UVA. As for Houston, what conference are they in? Exactly. Their one loss to BYU.........

And when is the last time BYU was ranked? BUU has always had to work harder to get the love. But once they get it, they get it.

Beat Wisc and then start worrying about rankings.

Our win over Texas had more to do with Texas in the eyes of voters than it did with us.

As mentioned, we beat Houston by 1 point. Unless you watched the game, you could say that it was a toss up.

Losing to Virginia and Utah doesn't help us any.

We beat Wisconsin on their home field and we'll turn some heads.

Yes I did! Mixed the dates up.

My opinion on Texas being above Byu stays the same though.

Quality wins. Their best win was a then ranked 19 Northwestern. NW is in a major tail spin.

At the time Texas loss to Byu. Byu not only killed it, we broke 100 yr old records. At that time we were 0-1 coming off a loss to UVA? As time has gone on i'd say the loss to UVA.

The AAC might not be the SEC but they get an autobid. They have a large TV base as well.

2 losses to "then" top 20 teams.

2 big wins vs "now" ranked Michigan St. and ranked ASU

If you put ND and Wisconsin's schedules head to head you could argue that ND should be ranked higher than Wisconsin.
S

There is potential for ND and Wisconsin to LOSE to Byu and be ranked higher.

Wisconsin has quality possible wins vs Minn. and Penn St.

Notre Dame could beat Stanford the following week.

If Houston beats UCF on Saturday they could be ahead of Byu even with a Byu win over Wisconsin. The following week after that Houston plays ranked Louisville.

If Texas survives their gauntlet of 3 ranked teams in 4 games then their ahead and in a BCS bowl..

Very likely that Byu wins out and 4 teams we have beaten are ranked ahead of us.

That would be the ultimate disrespect to have ALL 4.

You also got the consecutive wins wrong, too. We went from 1-2 to 6-2 after the Utah loss.

IIRC, Texas was 1-2 after the Ole Miss loss and has not lost since, getting also to 6-2.

Both teams have the same 5 game win streak. Both teams had major problems early that have clearly been fixed, so throw the 1-2 starts out the window and look at the 5 straight wins. Slight edge to Texas on quality of those 5 wins.

Plus - Texas beat Jake Heaps. Probably confused some voters who think he is still at BYU and that BYU is still in the WAC. ;)

Ya that was part of the mix up of date/games.

Both at 5 games and they have a huge upset. They sure climbed back up fast and leap frogged us. Don't think that's right.

Yep. Virginia (2-7, 0-5 ACC). One of those wins is against BYU, and the other is against a 1 win and 8 loss division IAA team.

We lost to arguably the worst team in college football, then our rivals (who happen to be slumming the PAC-12 cellars) and started the season 1 win and 2 losses.

BYU has itself to blame. It lost two games it has no business losing, and playcalling and coaching has everything to do with it.
