I think I read that BYU plays Weber State in the opener, Friday.

The informed ballers can post here Scouting comments on Weber State and important stuff like time, location, TV, etc.

The uninformed and unsure are welcome to post as well.

Too early to tell on many fronts, but returnees are returnees, and we know about them on both teams. Newbies are newbies and we know that they may be overhyped or under-rated, but we may have some scoop.

But most importantly, put your predictions right here.

Mariott Center. Friday. 7:00 PM MST. KSL Radio and Internet Radio. Not sure yet about TV, but I just received an email indicating BYU TV live coverage.

BYU returns Tyler Haws. He is off to an unspectacular start on the court and in the recording studio according to reports. But, we know him. He is money. He will get his game and lips back in synch. So, we have one really good - all conference good - starter.

BYU returns Matt Carlino. He has grown a few hairs - literally - un the off-season. Maybe figuratively, too. He came on strong to end last season. Still a little hot and cold. Has he figured out his role? Can he more consistently knick down shots? Can he become Money at the FT line? Is he quick enough to hold his own vs great teams? We have a 2nd starter. A pretty good one. Maybe all conference. Maybe not. His lip-synch video was solid.

We have other returnees - some with starter experience. We have newbies. At least one who comes with hype and huge self-inflicted expectations. And an RM that fans either love or hate.

Kyle Collinsworth

Nate Austin

Eric Mika

We may run 4 guards at times. We will run. Still not clear who the other starters will be, although indications are that KC will be one of them and Mika or Austin will start.

I am forgetting someone. Who is it?

BYU is projectedcto be WCC #2 good - but in a post Dellavedova scenario with Zags off a bit and SMC off a lot. Are we substantially improved from NIT team last year?

But no bike helmets.

Looking forward to seeing them play a slightly better opponent.

Some years Weber State has been good. Anybody scouted the 2013 Wildcats? This is not football. They usually compete much better in basketball.

Weber State went 18-2 in the Big Sky last year but did not win the championship. Montana was 19-1. Weber State is expected to challenge for the title and for a dance card as they return 3 starters.

Every season, I try really hard to get anyone other than Gunk and me to get excited about BYU Basketball during these last 8 weeks of football season usually the 1st 8 regular season games. Ghost town over here.

I started trying back when we had Jimmer and were about 10-0 one year and nobody seemed interested.

Perhaps you have some thoughts about this game and this opponent.

I took a quick look at Weber St.

Berry is their best player a 6'4" 185 guard forward. Average 15 ppg, 4 rpg and 3.9 apg last year.

They run a 3 guards, a 6'6" forward and a center. So we will be able to play KC at the 4.

Okay Bib...I am alway in for some BYU hoops even though I must admit I am stoked for the Wisconsin game on Saturday. I am looking forward to a Basketball/Football extravaganza next weekend when the mighty ISU Bengals come to LES and Cougs host two teams as part of the CBE in the MC on Friday and Saturday. Now for the Weber State game. The Wildcats have a relatively experienced team, especially compared to BYU who doesn't have one Senior. Weber played one exhibition and defeated Adams State 85-77. Very balanced scoring for the Wildcats with 5 players in double figures. Last year's leading scorer Davion Berry led the way with 15 but only shot 3-12 from the field. Senior post player Kyle Tresnak, 6'-10" scored 14 on 6-12 shooting. Might give young Mika and Worthington, as well as Austin some trouble. 6'-1" senior guard Jordan Richardson scored 13 points on 3-4 shooting on 3's. The Wildcats got to the FT line 57 times but only converted 37 (only 37???). I think the pace of the game will be choppy due to the emphasis being placed on the hand check on the perimeter and the fact that this is the first regular season game. Expect a lot of fouls, free throws, and a 15-20 point Cougar win. I say 81-63.

I appreciate the effort Bib and normally would be right there with you, but work has been crazy this week.

There are no seniors on this team, which is good and bad. I think playing out of control will cost us a game or two this season while the urge to push will also win us a game or two.

My verdict is still out till I see them play more.

I'm already excited. I love BYU Basketball.

I've been excited for weeks now. I think that we will have a better team this year, and am looking forward to dancing again in March.

As for this game, we win by 20 points give or take a few.

Gunk,

Do we really need Seniors? Haws is a RM who has started for 2 seasons. Carlino has redshirted and started for 2 seasons. That is a lot of game experience. And they would taking and making big shots.

We'll be fine at the end of games with them at the controls.

Juniors are the next best thing to Seniors.

No, but when was the last time we didn't have any?

Haws, Carlino and Austin need to step up. After those three, next players with recent experience are Sharp and Winder. This is a young team.

Haws isn't much of a vocal leader. He does his thing (very well) and leads by example. Austin seems like he might be stepping up a bit. Carlino is at the helm and is the vocal guy. This is his team. I'm a big Carlino fan so look forward to watching lead the troops.

It is a young team. We need to enjoy them as they grow. We will be in better shape next year - except backfilling Mika if he goes on a mission. There are still some question marks to be worked out at one or two spots this year and two or three spots next year.

Carlino - both years is in

Haws - both years is in

Collinsworth - probably in both years

Austin - possibly steps up - not certain

Mika - possibly steps up this year - then departs

Beyond that, the next 7 or 8 weeks - in between football games - should be fun to figure out what we have got

And tomorrow - we will hear whether Dastrup is coming

Nice take Bartley. It's good to see a long bench already in play so far this game. And the swats...oh yeah.
