Official Wisconsin aka Bucky Prediction Thread

We know all we are going to know about ourselves by gameday barring an injury in practice or Las Vegas trip during the bye, so why not start the Wisconsin scouting reports and game predictions now. Sure, Bucky plays Iowa or someone like that this weekend, and some new knowledge will come from that, but Iowa should not be a major test for them. We can assume a solid win for now.



Yes injuries could happen. An upset could occur. But we can all adjust our predictions later in the thread should that occur.



Bucky has put up impressive numbers and only have a loss to The Ohio State University and to the PAC Officials at ASU blemishing their record. But, to what extent are their stats skewed by SOS. BYU stats are becoming impressive. To what extent are they understated by our slow start on offense.



Start now. Can we beat Bucky in The House of Cheese?

I am leaning to NO myself, but the optimism others have been trying to justify re Bucky not haven beaten anyone is working on me. That is why I started this thread.



Hoping to see some of that PER and Defensive PER compared to opponents opponents stuff come pouring in here for BYU and Bucky.

I have us winning 27-24,



And also, I predict that blood pressure will be spiking in the 4th quarter like with Houston.



I also predict my eating a few Brats in honor of it being in Wisconsin, which will not help my blood pressure!

I think we win. I think we go up early and hold on down the stretch by the skin of our teeth as the power run game wears down the D. I'm thinking a 10-14 point lead at the half and a 3 or 4 point win. 35-31 sounds about right.

I am hoping that the brain trust has figured out that the best way to keep our own D from getting gassed in the 2nd half is to keep them off the field by moving the ball and gassing the opposing defense instead.



My biggest question right now is just how good that Wisconsin defense really is and how many mistakes our offense will make with a deafening crowd.



I think the BYU D will keep earned points by Bucky offense under the 24 point target. Pick 6s or KOR to the house not included.

BYU will likely have 5 or so legit scoring opportunities in this game. Winning or losing IMO will hinge on the O's ability to score TD's instead of kicking FG. They score TD's on those key possessions, we win. They don't, we lose. The problem is, we haven't been very good this year at scoring TD's when in a prime position to do so.

We'll need a couple turnovers to get this one and we will.



BYU 37

Wisc 31

BYU 34, Badgers 24. Cougars never trail behind. KVN and Hoff have big games. TH throws for 3 TD's and runs for one. JW runs for 80 yards but no TD's. Hine and Brown combine for 40 yards. TH runs for 40, and passes for 300. That's 460 yards of total O. D gives up 380. TO margin: even. No garbage time. Barring early injuries to QB, safeties, JW, or CH, BYU wins this. The nay-sayers will believe.

Regarding key players that must not be injured, Bronco says that Robertson Daniel tops that list. He didn't mention TH or others, so he might have been referring to the defensive side only. See article "Ridleys Suspension Shows BYU Subject to CFO."



Also, I predicted the BSU game 34-20, and it turned out 37-20. So if there's any trend there, maybe BYU will pad the spread by another 3 or 4 pts? 37-24? Cougars will do better in this game than many people at this point are thinking. Here's to no key injuries!

Boise State would not have scored 20 if sorenson didn't go down. houston would not have scored 46 if bills handn't gone down. those guys are essential to our defense. we should have both back. that is big in my mind.



I think this game will be close or byu will winn comfortably. right now i am leaning to a wisconsin win by three points. what i do know is that ohio seemed liek the only team they have played that was able to stop Wisconsin's run game. Wisconsin through for a large percentage of his yards in that game which is different han many of their other games.



i also know their first two games are skewing their stats. it seems that the teams are pretty evenly matched but i am starting to wonder if BYU is a top 20 team. they may surprise us and throw the ball around like they have against the other teams they have played. i am not sure yet what to think. each day that goes by and the more i learn the more i am thinking byu has a good shot.



gary anderson with better athletes with more fans and byu traveling all the way to wisconsin against a top 25 team usually would equal a pretty much guaranteed loss. if we win this game it will be a real accomplishment for byu and a sign of very good things to come.

I have huge respect for Gary Anderson. He has faced Bronco and BYU before and understands the general schemes. He was at the USU game and saw first-hand the quality of the team ... and some of its weaknesses.



But BYU continues to evolve. The passing attack is solid enough to warrant respect and having to worry about it. The running attack is solid enough to worry most teams. The combination becomes much more difficult to defend. Wisconsin can't now pull the Utah and just load the box and dare BYU to beat them through the air ... BYU has proven they will.



BYU's defense has been exposed some ... usually where injuries have taken out key players.



I have to believe that a) Wisonconsin is for real; b) they have not been truly challenged most of the season (the two losses excepted ... and agreeing that one of those was by Official misconduct); c) when challenged they still looked pretty good in the highlights.



It SHOULD be a pretty good game. My blue goggles are firmly affixed. If BYU scores 35 or more, they will win. If they score 17 or less, they will lose.



BYU wins 35-28

Since this is the first game I've been to in person in quite some time, I have to go with the Cougars! Score doesn't matter!



I was at the TCU road game where BYU upset the nationally ranked frogs. This will be even more fun!

Bucky plays a pretty decent Hawkeye team this weekend. That game should tell us more about Bucky. I hope that is a hard hitting physical smash mouth game that badly sprains a few ankles.

I told a coworker that I was going to the Wisconsin game, and he naturally assumed I meant the Iowa-Wisconsin game tomorrow. I had to clarify that I was going to the BYU-Wisconsin game. His comment was that "Isn't BYU a little down this year?" This coming from an Iowa fan. Iowa usually has Utah-like seasons (a few memorable wins, a lot of forgettable losses). I think Nov. 9th with be an eye-opener for many in this part of the country.



I'm with you - I hope the Iowa game is really physical and takes a lot out of the Wisconsin team.

You mean like BYU would be if it were in the Big 12?

Perhaps, but Iowa has a way of winning a few they really aren't expected to, and then turning around and losing to lesser opponents.



What I've seen from BYU is more of a pattern of early struggles followed by significant improvement throughout the year. It would be nice to see more early success.



I just thought it was interesting that the early-season struggles seem to be in everyone's heads more than the last 5 wins. Thus his comment about BYU being "down". First impressions? Maybe the Badgers will come in thinking the same thing, and that they have a break from their tough conference schedule.

First impressions are first impressions.

I was building in confidence as Iowa kept settling for field goals and Iowa with poor field position could not sustain a scoring drive. Then a 40 yard KO return after an Iowa field goal, and Bucky scored quickly and pulled away to a comfortable win vs a decent Hawkeye team.



They wore Iowa down.
