Taysom's progression

I know this already common knowledge, but we are in the midst of witnessing something special at BYU with the growth and development of Taysom Hill.



It was just over a month ago that fans and media alike were scratching our heads and many were calling for Taysom to be benched in favor of Ammon Olsen.



In the first 3 games of the season, Hill was running well and passing poorly. Here are his stats over the first 3 games:



40-114 for 564 yards 1 TD and 3 INT. 35% completion rating. Average PER was 73.3.



Rushing obviously was out of this world with his demolition of Texas. His running stats were:



48 rushes for 400 yards, 4 TD's 8.3 yards per carry.



Stating with Middle Tennessee, Hill clicked in both facets of his game, and stated becoming the accurate par we all hoped he could be. In the past 5 games his passing stats have skyrocketed.



106-162 for 1445 yards 11 TD's 5 INT. 65% completion rating. Average PER of 155.4.



His PER is effectively double what it was to star the year, though the season average doesn't reflect that.



Running starts during that same time period are:



94 rushes for 437 yards and 4 TD's 4.7 yards peer carry.



Currently, Hill is the only QB in the country who has over 2000 yards passing and 800 yards rushing. It's insane. Especially if you take into consideration the Hill has been sacked 24 times. Without those sacks, Hill is a 1000 yard rusher.



If he status healthy, BYU fans are in for a true and rare treat over the next 2.5 years. If Hill keeps this up, he's going to reach Jimmer status. Right now is a great time to be a Cougar fan! Now on to the bye week and healing up, then on to taking down Wisconsin. 8)

Yep. He'll be top 3 in Heisman votes the next 2 seasons. It's going to be great. We have a legit shot at the playoffs next year.

Not sure there are enough scholarships this year to go after anyone we haven't already targeted.



Other than Mama, Luatua, and Bailey I don't know what else is out there this year that would help Hill during the next 2 seasons. (I don't think any of those 3 plan on missions)



I sure would like some JUCO linebackers and a JUCO dlineman just to give us some depth. (I'd also like to force Fua into the weightroom and tie a bucket of peanut butter and protein shakes around his neck... I hope he realizes that he has 1st round talent if he can get to 235-240 lbs)



I think Johnny Ragin made a huge mistake not signing with the Cougs last year. KVNs spot would be his next year. Instead he'll be lucky to make a bowl game during his Cal career.

And if by chance BYU wins at Wisc and ND, which presumes he would have great games, he may make the short list this year, or at least the 5-10 rank and one to watch next year.

But if his numbers continue and wins continue, they will speak for emerge from the pack and he will garner some attention.



But Craig is so right, KVN, Hadley, and Unga will leave huge holes to fill. As will Manu, but Johnson will do a good job taking that spot.
