Rising tides

I know we like to make fun of cougarbib for his rising tides analogy but frankly, I think it is 100% legit this year. Take Ross Apo for example, his passion and the way he is working to catch the ball right now is amazing. Last year, he looked completely apathetic and when the ball came his way he didn't even look like he wanted to catch it. I went to the OSU game and I watched Apo in particular and he looked like he jogged his routes, he didn't even look like he cared. 180* turn around the last few games, he looks like we had hoped from him from day 1. Now we are starting to get the TE's involved and swinging to the RB out of the back field. This offense once it gets going is going to be scary, it already is scary but only in bursts, we still haven't seen 4 full quarters from it.

That's what you get when you have a true leader at QB at BYU. Taysom has the leadership of Max Hall and the tools of McMahon... If he learns to read a defense like Detmer... we're in for an amazing ride the next 2.5 years. Imagine what Taysom is going to be like next year when he'll be able to bark at everyone and make them listen...

And he has the smarts to do it. Very heady kid. Still learning, but clearly bright. As long as he commits to learning and not thinking he has it down or can coast on skill and past accomplishments, he could be very good.

Still puts too much zip when he has a hard-charging defender coming down on him, but even that has improved over the last mere weeks.

His accuracy has been insane recently. In the first half I don't think he missed a throw that wasn't a throw away.

Better news - The tide is still rising. Hill has not peaked.

Yes, the tide is rising. So are the depths of the Oline depth chart. I was alarmed to see 3rd stringers and walk-ons playing in the third quarter and ticked Anae didn't stomp on their necks in then third quarter and then bring in the scrubs once BSU had conceded.

But there is some credit due for getting reps to new guys as a means of helping create depth and prevent injury--although that never stops them from running Hill intentionally late in the fourth. Stupid is, as stupid does.

But back to tides and boats, it is indeed cool to see. There has almost been a deep, three year hole of a weak Heaps who couldn't lead and was undermined, to a narcissist who smoke and mirrored leadership with grit, marginal talent, and a "I'm the man" mentality. THILL HAS IT ALL....except an amazing, consistent Oline. The immediate and next few year future does look very promising.

Milk is poisonous, Austin Collie should literally go break a leg, the price of hotdogs at LES (or anything by rustyshackleford, airwolf ("9/11 was an inside job"), etc.) and Japanese shoes... are the oddities of the history of this group. It never struck me as odd when he wrote about rising tides.... The Heaps vs Nelson debate nearly did me in (I steered far away from it, nothing to say that could make it more palatable) but "rising tides" I guess never registered on my radar.

You forgot to mention the fact that Heaps being a poor player might have contributed to his undermining. Nelson, even when healthy, had clear physical limitations exacerbated by the fact that his style of play left him injured more often than not.



Heaps - bereft of Riley or his influence - is now at Kansas, even with more experience now, proving that he is not a D1 starting QB and has had 2 different backup QBs taking reps from him.

Oh yes, this BYU team does great accepting freshman NON-RMs who show up and try to take front seat. Shut it Bib! nobody cares anymore.
