2 (maybe 3) wrongs do make a right!

I can't stand Ohio State and I'm bored out of my mind each week with our band. However, when you add OSU and bands (and MJ) it turns out pretty sweet.



Our band learns a new song about every year and a half. If you go through the OSU marching band youtube videos they're busting out something like this every week!



Bring in OSU's band or bring back the quarterback challenge BYU. Your pick. :P

Okay, back in the day, well, back in the late 70s, I was in the BYU Marching Band. We were awesome. I was even a tuba/sousaphone player. We learned new music and a new routine every week and the music was hard enough that the marching bands of other universities who asked to see the music said that they couldn't play it, it was too hard. What I even find amusing is that while most college marching bands are full of people with music scholarships and people were required to participate in the bands due to their music majors, BYU never forced people to be in the band, we wanted to be in the band, most weren't even music majors. There were no scholarships for BYU Marching Band.



Most marching bands have over 250 members and we had less the 130 and we outplayed many other bands.



We were also rated #3 in the nation at the time. IIRC, Michigan was #2 and FAMU was #1. Nobody could beat FAMU in a faceoff. Too bad what happened to them.

seems like the band has switched it up a little the last few years. I really like the opening sequence with the 'go mighty cougars' and 'go marching in' I could personally do with out the alma mater song...I like the change to a Y formation as we wait for the team to come out and the student section starts the B-Y-U-Cougars chant. it is worth half the ticket to me to see this tradition. but halftime has seemed to be ( don't mean to offend because I don't play am instrument) phoned in. I remember a few years back they did a star trek thing and once they had a guy doing the freebird solo.

Maybe the same people who have turned BYUtv from boring talking heads into a channel that I actually watch could do something for the band!
